Help...Ferry From Scotland to Ireland
 

Has anyone taken a ferry from Troon, Scotland to Belfast, Ireland?

We would like to travel in December and have encountered many ferries not in service during this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are two ferry operators between Scotland and Ireland: P&O (www.poirishsea.com) and Stena Line (www.stenaline.co.uk).
There is no service between Troon and Belfast. P&O runs a summer service from Troon to Larne, but winter services are from Cairnryan and Larne.

Is there a specific reason you want to take a ferry? In winter it sure wouldn't be my choice? The weather can be awful . . . . .

Thanks for your replies. It is a great deal cheaper to take the ferry compared to flying.

Ferry for one person is 20 sterling, flight is $96.

Don'tknow where you got your $96 or what date you want. But since both EasyJet and FlyBe fly from Glasgow to Belfast you will be able to get VERY low fares if you book ahead.

Since I didn't know what date to plug in I just went to FlyBe's site just to get a general idea for Dec. GLA to Belfast City from £19.99 including taxes and fees. Of course you'd have to travel to Glasgow since you can't fly from Troon -- but then again you can't take a ferry from Troon either.

I got the $96 fare from travelocity. I have seen the low advertised prices while in the UK, but hadn't been able to find them online

If you go into the Easyjet website at
http://www.easyjet.com/

and book now, there are some flights under £10 between Glasgow and Belfast
The earlier you book, the cheaper they are

The drive down the coast to Cairnryan is stunning. You pretty much follow the coastline the whole way , sugged and really beautiful. Stop off in Girvan for chips!
The ferry is reliable , quick and especially good if you want to take a car.
