HELP! Fall semester housing needed in Leiden

My son just learned yesterday, two weeks and one day before he's due to leave, that he has no housing for the fall semester in Leiden. Yikes!

The University of Richmond states they cannot guarantee housing placement to students studying abroad and it's actually come true for us so now we have a mad scramble to find something. I'm hoping that my good friends on Fodors will have some direction we can follow.

We have all the info from the Leiden website and would prefer not to have to pay a service but are exploring that option. My son will be posting to the "housing wanted" board of craigslist Netherlands.

Any other thoughts? Does anyone know someone who's looking for a boarder (as his Mommy, that's what I'd prefer) or apartment (what he'd prefer) or room or whatever :) !

Thanks,
Linda

How long will he be there; just be sure he doesn't need a Visa or, if so, have him apply now! Not sure what is in like in the Netherlands, but in the UK students need a Visa if they are staying more than 6 months.

I've not been to Leiden, so I'm afraid I can't help with housing. Good luck!

We have all the info on that, thanks! Just left high and dry without a place to stay (August 9 through December 23).

Send SLS - as mentioned in this link - an e-mail.

They are specialised in students housing. Probably they can tell you much more.

Hi Ida, thanks for your response. SLS is through Leiden and isn't much help for international students. What I'm hoping for is a personal "in" through the members here. I'm ever optimistic!
