help...directions for Victoria Coach

It's pretty easy to find Victoria Station in London, it seems that all roads lead there, but to my chagrin I found that this isn't the same as the coach station. I found the bus station, eventually, but have no idea how, other than just wandering around on foot till I stumbled upon it. Does any one have clear, step-by-step instructions as to how a traveler can find the coach station after ariving at the train station? Thanks.

I'll try to help. My directions make it more confusing than it really is, particularly if you have a map handy (which I don't). Someone will probably have better instructions than me. Once in VS main concourse, you can take escalators into an adjoining shopping mall. Do that, walk through the mall and out the door at the end of the mall. you will continue in that direction along _____ street (which runs parallel to the station and runs in the same direction you have been walking), but cross over to the other side of the street. Keep walking alon ____ street away from VS. The VS Coach station is located roughly at the intersection of one of the next two cross streets. OK, not as clear as you would have liked, but I tried.

Fodors.

You are very right: many bag-laden folk curse the ten minute hunt. So, let's go. In Victoria Station find the platform with the highest number: it's near the Grosvenor Hotel. Walk out through a small passage to Buckingham Palace Road, turn left, walk past Victoria Place shopping Centre, past the corner for Eccleston Bridge, and at Elizabeth Bridge corner look right. There's the coach station, a monument of Art Deco. (Also, just beyond it, a good fish and chip shop, with a real deep fat frier, not the stuff they call "traditional" in West End pubs.)

Or, arrive at Victoria underground station. Ask the officers for the small stairs up to the bus stand (not the bus station). At that stand find the bus stop for busses 11 and 211. Pay the driver 70 pence, ask him to call out for Victoria Coach Sation, and go two stops. And Bob's your uncle.

If you arrive at the coach station with luggage don't cross the road, but stand on the platform at the bus stop, and take an 11 or 211 to Victoria tube or bus station or for Westminster. Or stay on the 11 for the West End and City, or on the 211 for Waterloo.

Readers are welcome to write if I can help further. Please don't slog the way with luggage.

Ben Haines, London

Ben, What's the name of the fish and chips shop?

For Jane: I'm sorry, I don't know. I'll look for it next time I'm in the area.

Ben Haines
