Help deciding between Crillon and Meurice hotels in Paris

I've been trying to decide between these two hotels. They both offer essentially the same package at the same price.

Someone told me that Crillon may be under renovations currently which may help make the decision a bit easier. Can anyone tell me if this is so? There's nothing on their website to indicate that they're under renovations so I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me out.

Please share any opinions or experiences on either of these hotels.

Thanks so much!

Have been to both for drinks. If Le Crillon is not under renovation I'd pick it hands down. The Meurice is very lovely and more intimate in feel but I don't like staying on the Rue de Rivoli.

What mclaurie said!

Just back from Paris. We had tea at the Crillon and it's the place to go.
No ongoing renovations.
It's more remote and more quietly located than the Meurice on busy Rue de Rivoli of which I am really not a fan. Too busy, too touristy and tacky, in a way.
You can always hit the Meurice bar for a drink or for tea in the lovely winter garden.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

It was on TRIPADVISOR.COM that some guy wrote that the Crillon was undergoing renovations. The hotel didn't mention any renovations on their website but I just wanted to make sure before we book.

I know we've at least walked on the Rue de Rivoli but I can't really remember what it was like. We haven't stayed there but from what you said it sounds like it's not the place to be.
