Help choose Venice hotel from the two choices

We will be Venice in April 2nd week and need accomodation for 2 days.We are a couple in mid twenties and this will be the first time in Venice for us. I have brought down my hotel choices to the following two.

1) West Santa Croce
Hotel Locanda Salieri - Venice Santa Croce 160 - Fondamenta Minotto - 30123 Venice 73
http://www.hotelsalieri.com/

2) South west Castello
Hotel Locanda Ca' Valeri
http://www.locandacavaleri.com/en/index.htm

Please advice on the better option.
Thanks!

I would go for the Castello location, which is quiet but not too far from lots of things you will want to see. The Santa Croce hotel looks too close to the Piazzale Roma, a somewhat soulless area, if that exists in Venice.

It's not even close - the Hotel Locanda Ca' Valeri is a MUCH better location. More central, more convenient (and close to both Arsenale and San Zaccaaria vaporetto stops) and in a WAY more charming neighborhood. It's also convenient to the slew of inexpensive locals' places along Via Giuseppe Garibaldi.

GotoEurope,
I'm planning a few days in Venice for
April of next year.
What is the rate for a double?

Neither! The Salieri is in a very unfavourable location, also it seems to have a Karaokee bar on the ground floor (OMG!). The Ca´Valeri is in a better location but also gets quiet a few unfavourable reviews (in German) which are speaking of ants in the rooms, standard rooms being on the ground floor with windows that high you cannot look out and a rude owner. There are many better options in Venice I think.

The bar/restaurant is actually next to the hotel which is part of the hotel and if you're staying in a room with the canal view, you will hear the noise from the restaurant up until a few minutes after 12:00 midnight! The service i.e., restaurant reservation is almost non-existent and though advertises air-con; they turn off the central control after the summer eventhough, it was very warm (end of Sept.), upper 80's, and again if your room is on the canal, you're facing west, your room will be very warm.
