Help! Catching a train in Rome

Hi. I am arriving at fiumicino aeroporto in rome at 19.40 and need to catch the "leonardo express" at 20.07. I have to go through customs but do not have to pick-up any baggage. Do you think i will make it? How far is the train station from terminal B? Thanks so much for your help. Also, if you don't think i will make it, will i make a 21.05 train leaving roma termini if taking a taxi from the airport?

I'm afraid I've no idea on where the Leonardo Express would be taking you (are you sure about this?) ... I would guess to Florence because if I'm not wrong there's a single train leaving from Termini at 21:05 and that one is to Florence :-)

Anyway, the airport shuttle train leaving at 20:07, arrives at Termini at 20:39. The next train out from Fiumicino is at 20:37, unfortunately arriving only at 21:09.

If you're indeed heading to Florence, you'd have an Express train to Munich leaving Termini at 21:15 and the EuroNight to Zurich leaving at 21:22. The trips to Florence would take, respectively, 2:34 and 2:32 hours.

If you're not heading to Florence, excuse me the bandwith waste :-)

Paulo

PS. taxi travel times from Fiumicino to Termini vary too much (depending on traffic) to assure you'd be there on time ...

Oops! the Leonardo Express is the shuttle's name ... how stupid; I should have guessed it :-)
Paulo

PS. Normally, Frank, in your situation I would prefer to take the later shuttle train and a later train out of Termini than to risk taking a taxi (even though 95 times out of 100 the taxi should be ok).

Hi Paulo. Thank you very much for your response. I am going to Perugia and must get there that night. Since my flight comes in at 19.40, the only solution is to take the airport shuttle at 20.07 and then the train to Perugia from Roma Termini at 21.05. I don't know of any other way to get there (do you?)...bus? So, do you think I can make it? Is the airport shuttle close by? Thank you for your help!

Frank

I haven't used Fiumicino airport in a long time, Frank. The airport layout has changed since and I don't really remember which terminals were in use then. Maybe you'd have better luck if you repost the question under a more appropriate title, like distance from Fiumicino Terminal B to train shuttle ... or the like. Anyway, for a general idea of the aiport layout visit
http://www.adr.it/it/fiumic/mappa-fco.html

Perugia ... Now I see why the 21:05 train out from Termini is a must ...

What follows is put for your cosideration in case you don't make it catching the shuttle at 20:07. "Normally", a taxi should take about 40 minutes from Fiumicino to Termini. Early in the morning (6am) I once did it in less than 30 minutes. I'm afraid, though, that around 8pm it may take closer to 1 hour, specially in summer (unless it's a Saturday).

As you may know, by taking the 21:05 train you'd have to change trains in Orte. The train from Orte to Perugia leaves at 22:06. From Fiumicino to Orte it's a little over 100km and a taxi should cover the distance in one hour, maybe a shade more. Therefore, there would be enough time if you're able to leave Fiumicino not later than, say, 8:30pm. This would cost you quite a bit (Lit 200,000??), but would be just about the only option left.

I wish you luck. Hopefully the flight comes in early!

Paulo
