Stayed at the Nuova Italia a few years ago. Nice hotel, decent sized rooms friendly staff, well located. Not terribly upscale but pleasant.

Hi, D. I just stayed at the Hotel Galleria (http://www.hotelgalleria.it/indexbri.htm) for 4 nights during the last week of May.

Since the search isn't always reliable, I'll summarize my post-trip comments. If you're interested in a single room here, they are tiny (I stood in the middle of the room and could touch both side walls with my palms). Regardless, the hotel is in a great location, the staff is incredibly nice, the breakfast is served right in your room so you can watch the morning activity on the Grand Canal while you eat, the "bathroom down the hall" was immaculate, and the price is terrific.

I snooped in some of the doubles being cleaned and they looked very roomy and had their own bathrooms. The hotel is on a second floor with no elevators. I liked staying there and would recommend it for its price (I would stay there again even though I chose the Accademia for next year).

Hopefully, that will help a bit, but you can always email me if you have any other questions.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Heather --- ME TOO! I've got this funny picture that I took of myself (using tripod) sitting on the bed of the single room (a/k/a closet)@ Hotel Galleria. But for only $50 on the GC . . .

I'd give a thumbs up on staying at the Galleria. With the caveat that you're able to book one of their doubles (for me, I did the teeny, tiny room once; won't do it again.)

Great location --- right by the Accademia bridge over which you can walk to St. Mark's Square. And the Accademia vaparetto stop is also there, so you can easily cruise up/down the canal.

Robin, I'm so glad that someone understands how small that room really is! Also, I meant to say that the photo I took of the view from the hotel room is on Sally's site ... http://geocities.com/dhfsbf/fodorite/fodor.htm It's under my name, then "Hotel Galleria". You can see what breakfast and the view look like.
