help a simple Paris question please
 

I'm embarrased to ask this but here goes:<BR>When we arrive in Paris airport and need to phone for the shuttle, what will be need to make the phone call? In US I just use the MCI phone card. Do I use euro coins or what? thankyou.

Many if not all shuttle companies give you a telphone number that you call before you retrieve your baggage. It's a toll-free number that does not require a phone card.

Who is the shuttle with? If you use Parishuttle the number is toll free. Otherwise stop by the newspaper stand when you get off the plane and buy some candy to get a few coins.

Don't feel bad, TB, I will be facing the same situation myself next week. Do a search for "Paris Shuttle" on this board. My printout of previous advice is not at hand, but I think you dial a toll free number. Someone more knowledgeable than I will probably respond shortly to your question. Keep checking. Hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have a wonderful time in Paris. That is definitely my intent.

Well at least someone is happy on this forum. One thing that I forgot to mention.... You may have to dial the number a few times til it goes through. Also, call immediately when you get off the plane to get a shuttle there quicker. There are not too many telephones in the baggage claim area of CDG. By the way, the baggage claim area of CDG is a nightmare. I also recommend using the rest room before going thru immigrations. The one in baggage claim always has a long line and is not, uhhhhhh, clean.

General advice: fewer and fewer phones in Paris accept coins. The majority now accept only calling cards. If you plan to make phones calls from outside your hotel, purchase a phone card, but you do not need a card for toll free numbers.

Important: when making the free call, on the phone by the baggage that we used, you have to push a little button that is labeled something like "sans carte". Otherwise, the connection never finishes.

Thank you to Richard for the info on Baggage claim at CDG. We will be coming in June with 2 kids (ages 7 & 10) & at least we can be prepared for the lines & make sure they "go potty" before getting in line! Thanks!

I must warn you, Paris CDG is not the most beautiful airport in the world. In fact, I would rate it as one of my least favorites. The appearance is similar to a cross between a circular parking garage and a prison. Sorry to say that. Be care not to be disappointed when you enter it. Its just an airport.
