I need to find the cheapest way to get from London to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Paris and back to London. This will be over an 8 day period so it needs to be relativly quick and cheap.

You really need to repost your question, Your first sentance sums it up wonderfully but many people who can give you advice will pass your question by - it's just too vague.

No-one can tell you the cheapest way. You need to do the work: we can mererly suggest a few options.

It's virtually impossible to find a cheaper option than flying the two sectors including London. But double-check by going to www.nationalexpress.com to check the bus prices, and Eurolines for the AMS-Paris bit.

Since the journey to and from the airports can easily cost as much as the flight if you choose the wrong airport, and only you know where you're starting from and going to, you need to get a list of the carriers from www.nonrev.net, then go to timetables. Enter LON as your airport. Then check for applicable rates with the airlines' own sites. Don't forget to add in the cost of surface transport.

It may be cheaper to do the Paris-AMS bit by train. Check on the SNCF site.

Hitchhiking would probably be the cheapest. I've never hitchhiked in Europe, so I don't know how quick it would be.

Anyone know how willing European drivers are to pick up hitchhikers? If they are willing, then it could be quick, too.

DON’T hitchhike! It’s dangerous and unreliable. It’s also bloody difficult and not worth the saving.

The cheapest way to do what you want is by coach. Have a nose around sites like the thorntree on lonely planet and gumtree.com these are aimed at young antipodeans – who are permanently potless, so it will have all sorts of advice.

Also when you’re in London get hold of a copy of TNT and it’s various equivalents (freely available in bars and on the street – it’s free). That’s a magazine aimed at young aussies and has loads of dirt-cheap tours and trips in it. They have a website too.

One well known British firm is Eurolines and they are advertising trips to Paris and Amsterdam for about £20. There are also firms that organise trips from Britain to Amsterdam to take in the rather earthier delights that city has to offer. They’re very cheap too.

It's not particularly quick - 08:18 to 17:33 - but it sure is cheap. (You lose an hour going east; return is 05:29 to 12:11.)

Last summer we took the train from London to Amsterdam via Brussels for about $150 return. If you are 25 or younger, the Eurostar offers nice discounts to Paris. Good luck and have fun!

EasyJet, from Luton, Gatwick or Stanstead Airport, both near London, to Schipol in Amsterdam...around 40 to 99 pounds. Go to EasyJet web. From Amsterdam to Paris, second class train, five hours....but also try AirGorrlla, European cheapie.

Uh, folks, it was just a bit tongue-in-cheek suggesting hitchhiking back and forth over/under the English Channel. Though I do suppose it would be somewhat possible.

fly by easyjet from london to amsterdam,train from amsterdam to paris then paris to london fly ryanair.most times the flights will be cheap.
