Must see Heidelberg Castle. There's also a great cuckoo clock factory in the Black Forrest

In Heidelberg, one of the best places to stay is the Hotel Zum Ritter - centrally located, historic, very good dining room and attentive staff, nice rooms. Can't go wrong, and you can walk to everything. We were there in the summer and had a room facing the street so it was a little noisy but shouldn't be that way off-season. If you're going in summer, ask for a room away from the street unless you don't mind late-night noise and want to lean out your window to see all the pedestrian traffic outside. There's more info about the Zum Ritter in all the guide books.

The Zum Ritter in the city of Heidelberg is an excellent choice. If you have a car while there, a stay at the castle-hotel Schloss Hornberg is also a best bet. This castle hotel has its own vineyard. It sits on the top of a hill overlooking the Neckar. The rooms are lovely, and the view is outstanding. The restaurant at Hornberg is a first class experience and you can sample some of the wonderful wine. You can also purchase wine at the hotel to bring home. The drive to Heidleberg is approximately 40 minutes.

Heidelberg is a great city -must see the castle. If you are looking for nice cities in the Black Forest region, Freiburg is a very nice choice. I lived for a year in a city in that area - Tübingen, which is a fantastic picturesque little town also on the Neckar (the same river Heidelberg is on). Has a great city center from the middle ages. Highly recommended, but a little off the beaten path. E-mail me directly if you'd like more info.

Hi Ray !
I am from Pforzheim, Germany and travelled all over Germany before I moved to Michigan. If you need some good hotels, Try the ***** Engel in Baiersbronn. Expensive, but excellent service. Avoid Heidelberg on a weekend. It's really filled. The Park Hotel in Pforzheim is the best around. That's also a good place to start from for trips. Please write me if you have questions.
