Heidelberg

Looking for a small hotel or pension in Heidelberg -- anyone give us some good suggestions.

We were in Heidelburg last week. We inquired at the TI about hotels. We were sent to the Hotel Zum Pfalzgrafen at Kettengasse 21, a block off the main shopping street. We had a large room, very clean with a nice bath. The hotel is more of a B&B; we were given a key to the front door and no one was at the desk when we returned at 8 P.M. The proprietors were very nice and the breakfast was good. We paid 180DM for our room.

We have stayed at the Zur Backmulde in Heidelberg 3 times. Easy walk to old town and river. Updated and nice rooms. Fax: 011 49 6221 536660. Phone: 011 49 6221 53630. Nice restaurant in hotel also.

I stayed at the Hotel Hackteufel. Fairly cheap. But I had a room in a building a block away from the main establishment. You get a key to the front door and the room and that's it. The restaurant is good though and reservations are a must. Also, it is right in the thick of things, walked to the castle in 10 minutes.

Gerhard, We stayed at the Elite Hotel, with the Family Karrenbauer. It's more like a B&B, nice rooms, good breakfast and a covered garden. Fax 06221-16 39 49. Easy walk to the Hauptstrasse.

We stayed at the Zum Pfalgrafen two years ago and liked it so much we have booked it for trip in June. Street parking is at a premium but I noted some limited parking might be available on site. About a block from Haupstrasse (main shopping street - pedestrians only) and castle is short walk away.
