Heavy Rain in Sicily in October?

I have just read about the unrelenting rainy season in Sicily which may begin in mid October (On Persephone's Island by Mary Simeti). Have you experienced this while traveling in October? How did you turn bad weather into a good trip? We will be in Sicily for the first three weeks of the month. Thank you.

Oisa,
We were in Sicily mid to late October last year and plan to do the same this year. We had lovely weather up until our first day in Taormina when it rained cats and dogs. We ate in restaurants, read books and drank wine. We travel through S Europe at this time of year and we always have a day or two of torrential rain...but it rarely gives us problems. I have heard however that hydrofoils don't travel to the Aeolian islands during tumultuous weather.
Happy planning! Lisa

We were in Sicily 2 years ago, for most of October...we never saw a drop of rain, and we used the pool and beaches quite often. I would say it was a pleasant 75+ most days. In fact, they had said that it hadn't rained in the last 8 months, and it did look a bit parched.
Have a great trip.

We also were in Sicily in Oct. 2002 and had the best weather I've ever experienced in my semiannual trips to Italy. There were blue skies and temperatures in the upper seventies to low eighties every day. Do not hesitate to go!
