Heaton's or Greenmount
 

Hi, We are going to Ireland this summer for our 1st time (SOOO excited). We will be spending two nights either at Heaton's or Greenmount House during our stay. Can anyone tell me which they would recommend? Thanks,

I see you don't have any responses yet. I believe we stayed at Greenmount and the breakfast was wonderful, but the room was chilly (raining outside).

Those two are popular, so if you don't have reservation by now, good luck!

We stayed in Heaton's in 2003. It is a wonderful place with very friendly hosts. Easy walk in to Dingletown. Have the porridge with Drambuie if you are not the day's driver.

Never stayed at Greenmount but it does get excellent Fodor reviews.

I stayed at Greenmount House in March of 2002. The rooms (and bathrooms) are nice, it's an easy walk to town but far enough out to be very quiet. The breakfasts are wonderful. If you stay there, ask for a room in the front with a view -- the back rooms are kind of dark.

I can't comment personally on Heaton's but my family and I stayed a the Greenmount and it was the best BB that we visited in Ireland. The breakfast was great and the larger room we had on the front of the building had a great view. When I think of Ireland, I think of Dingle and the Greenmount, along with Guinness and the Cliffs and......
Have a great time, you are going to love it no matter where you stay.

I've stayed at both - Greenmount five years ago and Heatons in late 2004. You will not be disappointed with either one. On each of the trips above they were both chosen as the best places by two different groups that I escorted. Greenmount is at the top of a slight hill, and is a little closer to town center, but not by much. It is a house that has been added on to, with a large variety of rooms. We stayed in one that reminded me of a honeymoon suite. It was gorgeous and the view was incredible. The porridge at Greenmount is served with Irish Mist. Heaton's serves Drambuie with their porridge, which is equally wonderful. Heaton's is a newly constructed building purposely built as a guesthouse. It is on the road leading out to Slea Head, and you can also walk to town from there but it is further than Greenmount. Heaton's has a nice sitting area in front, and like Greenmount, the breakfast room is surrounded by wonderful open glass views.

As gr8_fun mentions above, check availability ASAP, and perhaps your decision will be made for you! Either way, you will be pleased, and DEFINITELY drive Slea Head.

For the benefit of anyone researching Greenmount, don't stay there. We went in 2007 and were treated terribly. They did not honor our reservation -- made us switch rooms after one night. And when they made us switch rooms, they pounded on the door and harassed us to leave our room and move to the other one. This was because they had overbooked and given our room (reserved 6 months in advance) to someone else. And we got no discount for this inconvience and rude treatment.
