Heathrow to Windsor.
I did a check for travel between terminal 1 to windsor. The trip was Heathrow connect to hayes then slough and then onto Windor. When I checked the cost on National rail they quoted 9.10 pounds for the trip. However, when I went into the Heathrow Connect web site they quoted over 9 pouns just to Hayes. Can someone clarify? Thanks.

Or you could get a local bus

(the 71 looks the more attractive route, though a little longer)

The National Rail website has many quirks and errors. The 71 bus will take you directly from Heathrow to Windsor (by train, at both Hayes and Slough, you need to go over footbridges), and the bus is a lot cheaper.

"why not just rent a car"
Because getting to the Heathrow car hire place takes longer than getting the bus to Windsor. And that's before you start trying to find somewhere in Windsor to park the useless chunk of metal.

Plus -- our rogerdodger is a train/public transport sort of guy
I'd definitely take the bus - easy, relatively fast, and cheap.

And it will cost a lot more than £9.10

£9.10 is the one way fare for Heathrow to Windsor, £9.80 is the return fare for Heathrow to Hayes. So you are comparing apples and oranges.

"Buses to Windsor leave from Terminal 5,"
Where the connection to the buses is a gazillion times less of a pain than what happens at Hayes and (always, eastbound and very often but not always, westbound) Slough stations.
This really is a railway journey even train addicts need to avoid if they've got luggage.

Thanks all. I like trains over coaches/buses, however I generally
do both on my trips. Transfers don't bother me, part of the fun, at least for me. Regarding luggage, I only take my gym bag, packed, weight only 10#'s.
My problem is two fold. I have spend lots of time in London and I like to avoid spending time there on arrival. So I try to jump on a train around 15:00 and head out. Not stayed in Windsor, so thought I might give it a try.
