Heathrow to Waldorf
I am correct to plan on taking the Piccadilly line to the Waldorf on Aldwych?
TIA Cindy |
The nearest stop will be Covent Garden which is a pretty decent trek from Aldwych, but doable with rolling luggage.
|
You can cut distances on passages and stairs if you travel thus. Get five pounds ready in English money. Roll your luggage trolley to Heathrow underground station. Drop by lift to the platform. At Hammersmith leave your train, and cross the platform ten yards to the District line train: no stairs. At Temple go up the flight of stairs to street level. Leave your bag with the man who sells fruit from a barrow, find a taxi, and go the 200 yards to the Waldorf. Or with light luggage turn left from Temple tube station, go up a few stairs, carry on in the same direction up Arundel Street, cross in front of St Clement Danes church to the Aldwych, and walk left and up the Aldwych to the Waldorf. Or with moderate luggage buy at Heathrow a day pass for zones 1 and 2, take the District line to Westminster (enjoy the new steel tube station) up to street level, face Big Ben, turn left, cross Parliament Street, and take bus number 77A to the front door of the Waldorf. On the bus put your bags on their space where you can see them, sit downstairs, and look out for the Cenotaph, Downing Street, the Banqueting House, the Horse Guards, Trafalgar Square, and the theatres along the Strand.

The Waldorf Hilton?
If so please change your choice of hotel, Hilton have taken over and ruined the place. Please advise the rate you are paying, I'd be delighted to offer you some far superior alternatives. |
m-kingdom, I don't recall the OP asking if you liked the hotel, or asking for alternative suggestions. I do believe they were inquiring about directions from the airport. You really should read more carefully.
|
When's the last time you actually stayed in the place, m_kingdom? Can you explain what they did to the rooms to ruin them and what is wrong with it now? Second hand information is usually not very realiable and since you have a deep seated hatred for anything American, it seems logical you couldn't possibly like any Hilton Hotel. I know that Hilton made some major improvements to the place as it was in need of refurbishment and has gotten it.
|
It now has all the "charm" of your traditional Hilton - if "cmarlin20" is paying a very reasonable rate then this is acceptable, but certainly not at the rack. I walked around this property a couple of weeks ago, and asked to be shown a room as I was early for the theatre, the staff reluctantly obliged - small, and I was impressed. The Savoy is much better if you are set on staying in the Strand, or perhaps One Aldwych if you are into modern.
|
Come on m_kingdom, do you think anyone on this board pays rack!
Cindy |
m-kingdom does because she is too flaky to know the difference.
