Heathrow to Stansted -- time required?

I'm contemplating a trip that would require transit from Heathrow to Stansted airports.

How much time should I budget to make this connection?

According to the National Express Web site (www.nationalexpress.com), the connection takes from 1hr25min to 1hr40min. Traffic congestion could make the trip much longer, of course.

Footnote to my previous post. I'd try to allow about 4 hours between the scheduled arrival at Heathrow and the scheduled departure from Stansted.

I think 4 hours would be cutting it pretty fine. It could easily take up to an hour to get from your gate to the Central Bus Station at Heathrow (substantial walk to immigration hall, wait for clearance and substantial walk to CBS), plus a possible wait of up to an hour for the next bus plus the 1h 40m travel time plus the required check-in time of the airline at Stansted. I guess whether you give yourself 4 hours between flights vs. 6 hours would depend upon the consequences of missing the second flight.

After re-checking the coach schedule, I'll change my minimum time recommendation to match Ron's (6 hours rather than 4). If your flight into Heathrow is late, it's better to be safe than sorry.
