Heathrow to Russell Square

I'm trying to decide on whether to buckle down and take the tube from Heathrow to Russell Sq. or use a car service. My husband and I are 50-ish, and hope to be traveling light, but will be tired and jet-lagged. I know it's a direct trip on the Piccadilly Line, but wonder about stairs. Thanks for your help!

No stairs at Russell Square (well, they are there, but it's better to use the elevator). Also an elevator at Heathrow. It is a long ride, though.

No problem, no stairs. Older than you are and do it all the time.

Totally agree with KenCT! My husband and I have gone all the way from Heathrow to Kings Cross with no problem at all. And sooo much cheaper!

The tube ride really won't be that long--maybe 45-50 minutes. But that will be quicker than a car service or taxi, which will have to fight its way through traffic, always with the possibility for a major tie-up, especially if you are arriving at rush hour (one thing you won't have to worry about on the tube). I think taking the tube from Heathrow, as long as you are staying on the Piccadilly line, is a snap. Everyone else getting on at Heathrow will also have luggage, and since it is the start of the line you can always get a seat. I think you should try it--you won't know until you do.

Hi
on this visit the closest tube stop to my hotel won't be a straight run from H'row, closest stop is Tottenham Court Rd.
Do any of you think it would actually be easier, barring torrential rain, to walk the few extra blocks above ground from the Russell Sq stop, rather than change trains?
I'm staying at the Morgan on Bloomsbury St

I have stayed on Gower Street, which is what Bloomsbury Street becomes just north of Bedford Square. I would certainly walk the extra 2 or 3 minutes from Russell Square rather than make a transfer to get to Tottenham Court Road.

exactly the info I needed, thanks

THanks so much for the input -- you've convinced me that the tube will be fine. Now I just have to be determined to pack light.
