Heathrow to Gatwick transportation?
What is the best way to get from Heathrow to Gatwick? We fly into Heathrow, overnight at the Hilton Gatwick airport hotel, and fly out of Gatwick the next morning. (So we are not rushed to get to a connecting flight). I received a quote of 105 pounds one way for the 4 of us in an 8-seater bus. Is this a good price? How much would a taxi cost? Also, how is the Hilton?
Thanks you. |
Why not take the coach transfer? It takes about 1 hour to travel between Heathrow and Gatwick.
see http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/...k_transfer.htm |
If you are 4 adults all under age 60, the National Express willl be £76. Less if any of you are over 60 or are children. A taxi will be well over £100.
The drive time will be the same which ever you decide. Can take anywhere from 1 1/4 to 2 hours. |
Thanks for the website- it is cheaper for us to take the coach transfer (66 pounds). Now, our flight is to arrive at 9:50 am in terminal 3. Will we have enough time to take the 11:15 bus?

That's not allowing much time for possible late arrival or missing bags..... On the other hand, you could just sail through baggage reclaim, passport control and customs.

Heathrow has so many factors that can slow you down. The buses come regularly, and if your flight isn't until the next day, you won't be in any hurry so I'd just get whatever bus comes next.

If your flight is arriving at that time in the morning, why not squeeze time in London? Seems a bit of a shame to go straight from LHR to LGW...
You can take a coach from Heathrow to Victoria, leave luggages there, spend time in London. Then you either get back to Victoria at the end of the day, catch a train to Gatwick, or stay in a hotel in London. You can take an early morning train out of Victoria unless your flight leaves before 6:30am. |
I have to agree with the above. We had a similar situation just a few weeks ago. We flew into Heathrow at 7:30 a.m. and were flying out of Gatwick the next day at 9:30. We took the train into London, spent the day exploring, stayed overnight near Victoria Station and hopped on the Gatwick Express the next morning. The train is a quick 30 minute ride and we got to Gatwick in plenty of time to go through security and catch our flight. It would be a shame to waste the whole day hanging out at an airport hotel.

The Gatwick Hilton is a decent airport hotel. Primary advantage is that you can walk from the hotel into the terminal (undercover, if I remember correctly).
