Heathrow to Dover
I am making reservations for Heathrow to Dover by National Express coach. They have bus which leaves Heathrow at 9:45 goes to London (Victoria station, arriving at Victoria at 10:50) and then you change to a different bus and to Dover 3/4 hour later.
Wouldn't it be much quicker to take a tube from Heathrow to Victoria and then take the coach from Victoria to Dover. I'm looking for the most convenient way. |
Not really, the coach trip into London doesn't sound a lot longer than the tube journey would be. If you've got luggage the tube would probably be less convenient, as you have to change from the Piccadilly to the District/Circle line and then get from the tube platform to where the coach is - although this might eliminate some of the 45 minute wait.

That is a misconception many folks have. A tube ride sounds like it must be quick - but taking the tube from LHR to Victoria would involve a change of lines and at least 50 - 55 minutes (or longer depending at which station you transfer) you change at. For the added convenience of not having to schlepp your bags through multiple tube stations, the coach would be my choice.

Thanks, Benatbath and Janis. What you say, makes a lot of sense. I agree with you.I am also looking into car companies that will pick us up. I think for the extra 50 pounds or so, the convenience is probably worth it.

Waverley,
This topic has already been discussed several times. Check out this thread: http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34398622 It appears that the best public transportation connection from Heathrow is via Feltham and Waterloo Station, but that a car service is far more convenient, especially if you have luggage. Hope this helps, Andre |
Thanks to all. Thanks Andre, after reading that thread, I decided to go with the car service. It was just getting ridiculous to do all the transfers.
