Robespierre for whatever the reason you emphasized DO NOT in your post and a quick reading might disuade some people from using the method that works on windows computers on this board.....you could have toned down your response a bit by saying do remember this method will not work on MAC computers. Somebody asked and I responded with a method that does work but I did state it worked on windows based computers and on this board....incidentally for a long while these ALT key combinations did not work on this board and was the subject of several threads.

Using the Alt+numeric puts a character code into your text. It shows up on your screen correctly, and it shows up on the board when being viewed by someone with a browser and operating system that displays it correctly.

This does NOT mean that everyone with every operating system and every browser will have it presented correctly.

Only the ampersand sequences are always correctly rendered by every browser and every operating system, because they are an HTML standard. Alt sequences are a Windows contrivance, and Apple-key sequences are a Mac contrivance. Neither is universally recognized.

I am flying into LHR from Miami on BA,,,do I have to worry about this? I think I am disembarking in terminal 3, but I am not sure? I did not mind the tube at all last time we took it.

Our BA flights from Phoenix have always been in and out of T4. But it's not a big deal - thousands manage it every day.

Judyrem...

Don't worry about it...in general BA overseas flights come into Terminal 4 but there are exceptions that I don't remember but your ticketing documentation should show it....

When you get there and if it is your intention to take the tube into town, you will know if you're in terminal 3 or in terminal 4. If in terminal 3, you simply follow the signs to the underground...it is a long walk but there are some moving walkways as the underground station serves terminals 1, 2 and 3 so it has to be centrally located for those terminals.

If you're going into terminal 4, you will find the Underground signs covered up and there are signs directing you to the shuttle bus to Hatton Cross station...it's about a 5 minute ride no more. It's not the slightest problem.

Don't fret it..it won't be the worst part of your trip.

What are your plans for the rest of the time you are in London...it might be more beneficial for you to buy a 7 day pass and an extension to Heathrow...although buying the 7 day passes has become apparently a bit more complicated as you now need an oyster card for 7 day passes and according to what I read on the tfl site, and anybody please correct me if I'm wrong, they will no longer have a zone 1 only 7 day card and you will need a zone 1 & 2 (the zone 1 was never available as a visitor's card) and the oyster card will require a £3 deposit.

The pass sytem in London will be a bit more complicated unfortunately as of 02 January...research may be needed on the tfl web site....

Also remember the 1 day passes on weekdays out of Heathrow (zone 6) are only valid from 0930 onward...also you might do better with family cards (don't remember if you're coming with kids etc.)....you might wish going to the tfl web site and doing some research or sending them e mail with for suggestions....

XYZ, we are staying for a week at the Cumberland. We are going to do 3 plays and day trips to Oxford and Warwick castle...other than that we are flexible. I was thinking about getting a 7 day card...I will go the the Tube site and see what's what. Thanks for the feedback.

xyz123 Dec 14th, 2005 05:00 AM

Remember that as of 02 January, the single cash fare on the tube will be an outrageous £3 which makes a return £6....absolutely almost to use one of my favourite expressions criminal!

There are so many convoluted options...one day passes on weekdays only good after 0930, a 3 day pass but only good after 0930 on weekdays, 7 day passes but you need an oyster card which includes a £3 deposit....family cards with kids going all but free, bus passes, it really is difficult to keep track of the best way to do it...it's almost as if London has adopted some of the things done in many US states such as Florida which put outrageous taxes on things such as rental cars, hotel rooms to see the tourists support the local economy...the fare structure seems to be set up that tourists who are kind of lazy or dumb to do the research (no offence meant at anybody but many people are just too lazy or stupid to research things such as this) will be paying for their local transportation in London at outrageously high rates. But the same passes available to Londoners are available to tourists, they just have to know about them and the 7 day pass has always been a good buy for stays of 4 days or longer as there is no 0930 restriction to worry about.

XYZ, just went on the tube site and ordered my 7 day pass...easy peasy...no photo ID required...delivered for free...not bad IMO....not cheap but acceptable. I know I will have to get an adjunct for the tube from Heathrow...no big deal...thanks again for the info.
