Heathrow taxi 46 pounds?
Hi,
Ive just contacted Just Airports to get a quote for a transfer from Heathrow to Putney (SW15). As they count all bags (including hand luggage), it came to 46 pounds! My question is, if I get a black cab would it cost more or less than 46 pounds? Travelling via tube / train is out of the questions as I have 2 suitcases and and 3 backpacks (Im moving to London!). Thank! |

http://www.visitlondon.com/travel/ai...athrow-airport reckons 40 pounds to central London and Putney is much closer than that... |
"<i>reckons 40 pounds to central London</i>"
I'd bet a taxi to central London would cost between £50 and £55 or very likely more if they hit serious traffic. The official tfl website quotes £40 - £75 for the journey, but £40 would have to be at a time when there is no traffic. My guess re LHR > Putney -- about £40 on a good day |
Black cab LHR to Putney shouldn't be more than GBP 45.00 on an average day - it could be less even.
More, though, if there is some cock-up in traffic, but it would have to be severe. At that quote I'd go for a Black Cab. |
Fares do vary according to the time of day and the day of the week. You have not said how many are in the party. They (car services in general) do charge more if you need a big car sometimes.

We caught a black cab from Heathrow airport to Ealing, about 2 years ago, so prices will have gone up a bit. It cost us £40.
I just re-read your post and see you are moving to London. Welcome! We moved to the UK about 3 years go. Can I just say that you have way too much luggage, you will be sorry to have to cart it from place to place. We brought one suitcase each and managed fine. We have, of course, bought lots of stuff since then. Re-think, re-pack and take only what you can easily manage. Kay |
KayF has a good point - do consider taking a LOT less stuff w/ you. It will be VERY hard to handle even w/ a taxi. Plus you don't know how little/how much storage you will have in your accommodations. (storage will more likely tend towards the "too little" side than "too much")
Maybe just take one bag and a carry on and then have someone ship extra stuff as you decide what you need. Also re her quote of £40 from LHR to Ealing 2 years ago. -- Putney is quite a bit farther from the airport. (Now, IF you can cut back on your luggage, JustAirports would be able to use a small car and it would only cost you about £30) |
