Heathrow T5 Report

Flew back from Zurich to NYC yesterday - but due to a gigantic jewelry convention in Basle could not get direct flight - had to change at Heathrow from T5 to T3. They're now requiring a 120 minute window from T5 to any other terminal. We had 135 minutes and just made it. The plane from Zurich was about 5 minutes late - but T5 is enormous - getting to the bus stop took forever. Then we had to wait 20 minutes for a bus to T3 (they said it should be 5). Then waited 10 more minutes for other passengers - there were none.

Luckily when we got to T3 there were only about 10 people in the security line, we got through quickly, and went straight to the gate - where boarding was already way underway.

We did the entire flat pedestrian part of the trip at a brisk trot (as fast as you can go pulling a small carry-on) otherwise we would probably have missed the plane to NYC. (We didn't trot on all the various escalators - but did climb the steps.)

Based on this experience I would allow no less than 3 hours if you're transferring from T5 to another termianl - esp if you prefer to walk rather than half-run.
