Heathrow July 17 to where?

We just scored an BA flight direct to Heathrow for an 8 day trip. Been to London a few times and know it will be crazy due to Olympics, Any ideas on where to go and how to get there? Never been to Scotland. Been to Ireland. Thanks in advance for ideas .

From heathrow you can literally go anywhere! What interests you? Where have you been before...this is way too open a question to answer...throw a dart at a map and you can likely get there from heathrow...

I guess you are right about throw a dart! Ha! I guess I was wondering what places/landmarks, cities to hit on a road or train trip with such a limited time period! Is Scotland doable? Been to Cotswolds, Bath, Windsor. Maybe a car hire is the best way to do this.

If you are going to Scotland (VERY doable) don't drive up since it will take a full day each way.

Fly up to EDI and rent a car after a day or two in the city. You'll have about 5 free days to see a bit of the countryside, then drop the car at either EDI or GLA and fly back to LHR.

You can fly on from Heathrow to practically anyplace in the world. So no need to limit yourself to Britain or even Europe.

But if you want to go to Scotland, do as Janisj says. Or see something more of England, like Cornwall or the Lakes or the Yorkshire dales.
