Heathrow hotel for long layover--Radisson, Hilton or Sofitel?
 

I'm going to fly into Heathrow in September and I have a long 12 hour layover, flying out that same night. I want to get a hotel for the day so that I can rest and relax in comfort. I have narrowed it down to: Radisson Edwardian, Sofitel or Hilton. I know that the Sofitel is at Terminal 5, Hilton at Terminal 4. And Radisson just off the airport property? I arrive and depart from Terminal 1. Which would be most convenient? I don't mind taking a taxi to/from the hotel, if necessary--but I don't want to travel far. I see that the Radisson is .7 miles from Terminal 1--is this right?
I really am not too familiar with Heathrow. Which of these hotels would be easiest to get to/from? Any comment on quality, restaurants? Thanks a zillion.

The Radisson is closest in distance to Terminal 1 but requires a taxi or the Hotel Hoppa to reach it.

Terminals 4 and 5 can be reached from Terminal 1 by train (free and very short wait) from below the terminals. I think I would opt for the Sofitel or Hilton, assuming all other factors being equal, as both are connected to the terminals.

To the Radisson, taxi would be around £12-15 each way and not sure what current Hoppa charge is, maybe around £4 each way.

Thanks. I think I might go with the Sofitel, as I found a rate that's lower than the Hilton. As long as it's not too complicated to get the train to the hotel.
Once I get the train to Terminal 5, is the hotel convenient?

I have stayed at the sofitel at T5 a few times and for an airport hotel it is very very good.

Sofitel is connected to T5 by a covered walkway as is the Hilton at T4.

Not a fan of the Hoppa, and I've seen reports of attitude if you try to take a cab to a nearby hotel.

So, I'd be inclined to take the convenience of either the Sofitel or the Hilton. Just hop on the train and make your way to arrivals and follow the signs. Have not stayed at the Sofitel, but have heard good things, and it is pretty new. Have stayed at the Hilton and it is what you would expect from a Hilton - clean, comfortable, very pleasant. A bit of a walk from the train station to the Hilton. If pricing were equal, I'd probably take a shot at the Sofitel, for the newer rooms.

We stayed at the Sofitel this month and were extremely pleased. The train will not take long and once you are at the T5 stop you are almost around the corner from the hallway that ends in the hotel. It was a superior experience.

If you can afford the Sofitel, then I highly recommend it.

My husband and I will be staying at the Sofitel in May 2014.
We prefer separate beds - how do we find out which rooms have separate beds apart from those listed as twin? Does a double mean one double bed? Thank you.

I had a look at their site and yes it looks like they have a classic room with twin beds and a superior room with two single beds. I think the double room has a queen bed, that is what we had.
You can email them or phone them and ask about the beds if you are still unsure.
