Heathrow Hotel for Long Layover
We are traveling from USA to South Africa and have a long layover (10 hours) in Heathrow and then a very long flight to Capetown, SA. Wondering if there is a good hotel connected to the airport (we are arriving at T3 and departing at T5) where we could walk to and not rely on any transportation other than our feet :-).
Any help is surely appreciated. Thanks! |
I've never used it or walked there, but the London Heathrow Sofitel hotel is walkable to T5. Hopefully someone with real-world experience with this will reply shortly.

There is a Hilton Garden Inn next to Terminal 2 which is walkable from T-3 (be careful if booking because there is another Heathrow HGI off airport), and a Sofitel attached to Terminal 5. Both tend to be very pricey -- especially the HGI which is weirdly usually more pricey than the nicer Sofitel. BUT you could also stay at any of the many other nearby hotels -- there are 3 or 4 hotels attached to Terminal 4 which will be cheaper and the free Elizabeth Line connects T-4 to T-3. Plus, if budget is an issue, any of the hotels along the Bath Road (A4) just along the airport north perimeter are fine because there are close with access via the Hotel Hoppa buses, local buses, or a short cab tide.

Oh I didn't notice TrophyWife's post -- The Sofitel is actually attached to the terminal.
I've stayed at he HGI T-2, The Sofitel T-5, the Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn Express at T-4 and MANY hotels along the Bath road and any would work. As would some hotels in central London since the Elizabeth Line from Paddington and points east makes for a quick trip between London and LHR |
The Sofitel at T5 is very convenient, quiet, nice rooms and showers, if you don't mind spending the bucks for it. Or if you are an All Accor member like me, use it with or for points.

The Sofitel is nice, as others have said it is pretty pricey. In terminal 5, maybe 10 minutes walk to check in.. there is a Marks and Spencer on the way to the hotel that is convenient to pick up snacks and sandwiches too.

The Hilton is pricey but a short walk from
T2. Prices tend to be cheaper the earlier you book. Usually spend $250- $300 a night. Pleasant and clean albeit rather expensive for a Hilton Garden |
Most times I've checked, the Sofitel is in the $250-$300 range, the T-2 HGI $275-$300-ish and up. The nicer hotels along the Bath Road (Sheraton, Marriott, RadissonBlu, etc) and at T-4 can be had from about $95-$150, and the cheaper Bath Road properties (but still OK like Premier Inns, Ibis, etc) $65-$100-ish.

Time of day/night will make a difference. If morning into evening it may count as 2 nights or possibly a day rate? As OP says “good hotel” price may not be an issue.
|
The OP says no transportation other than feet. So maybe the higher price tag is ok.
last month I paid $185 at Sofitel but that is on the lower side, I know. I added $35 to that amount in the bar..it’s not the cheapest but for sure, convenient. |

If they want to walk to a hotel from their T-3 arrival the only options are the HGI at T-2 or the Aerotel in Terminal 3. The Sofitel is great but it definitely isn't walkable from T-3. If on the other hand they want a hotel where they can walk from the room to their departure at T-5 the only hotel is the Sofitel -- but the'll have to take some sort of transport from T-3 to T-5 so . . . just feet won't happen . . . |

Well -- since at very minimum at some point they'll have to move from T-3 to T-5 so they'll have to use SOME sort of transport other than just feet ;)
