Heathrow Express Reduced Fares!

Finally, lower prices for HEX! Potential for significant savings if you can buy far enough in advance.

Heathrow Express Adds a 90 Day Advanced Purchase Fare
Published: 16/09/2015
Heathrow Express has launched a new ticket pricing structure that includes a £6.99 single fare for advance bookings made between three and six months in advance.
The advance fare is some 74 per cent cheaper than the £26.50 cost of buying an Express Saver Single ticket onboard the train itself on the day of travel.
A Business First ticket bought at least 90 days in advance of travel costs £9.99, or £18.00 for a return, compared to £29.50/£53.00 if bought on the train itself.

Do you have to commit to a specific time or can you leave the ticket open? There's always the chance of a fight arriving late.

From the linked article:

Heathrow Express said in a statement: "Advance tickets are valid only on the date shown on the ticket and are non-refundable." -

There's also a return ticket option, to be used within 30 days. Good deal for those using HE.

They're valid only on the date specified.

In theory, that means you're fine if most flights are a few hours late. But you're - again in theory - nackered if a very late-evening flight (like a daytime flight from the US) arrives late.

You'd have thought they'd refund. But the T&Cs (hover over prices at https://www.heathrowexpress.com/book...cket-selection ) don't say so.

I they'd refund, it would be regular terms, so why would they give a special rate for prepayment?

Might not be perfect, but it's still a step forward. Was expecting them to stick to a specific date, at least for now.

It still only gets one to Paddington - which isn't where many savvy travelers want to stay. So you get to Paddington for 7 quid . . . Then you'd still have to take a cab/tube/bus(s) to get anywhere interesting.
