Would taking a taxi directly from Heathrow to Maida Vale be less expensive or quicker than 2 tickets on Heathrow Express? (I've heard that taking a taxi can be expensive and sometimes take even longer because of traffic on the streets.)
|
Some people actually don't mind doing a bit of laundry; especially with drip and dry type clothes to keep the amount of luggage within reason, I do it all the time.
As far as the poster who doesn't understand why people don't think they should get the visitor's travelcard ahead of time, here are several reasons... 1. The price is not different. But you have to wait for the travelcard in the US mail (things do get lost) and remember to pack it. 2. Although not appropriate in this case, you can save £3 by buying a zone 1 only if you don't need the extra zone 2. 3. You're going to have to deal with the clerk at Heathrow anyway to get the extension so you might as well do it all at once. |
Taxi will be much more money.
I'd advise booking a car service from Heathrow, I believe these start from as little as 25GBP. |
A prearranged car service (not taxi) could be cheaper than taking the Heathrow Express for 2 people. Go to www.justairports.com and click online booking to see what the price is to Maida Vale (choose the cash payment option for lower prices). You'll need to know the post code for where you're staying. We paid 24 GBP from Heathrow to our hotel in W1 and 19 GBP back to Heathrow last December.

Hey specter,
If you have enough information, better say so...otherwise these folks will argue about what YOU should do until well after your return. |
Thanks everyone - I think I have enough information to make an informed decision now!
|
what about the Airbus? has anyone suggested it? 7 pounds one way.
also, there is a promotion going on now: 4 for 2 for Heathrow Express Train. |
I hear the Airbus closed in January 2005. Oh, my heart is broken! What a lovely way to come into the city! Guess I'll have to look into HEX.

Hello,
planning on using justairport.com to get from Heathrow to my B&B, question, do I tip the driver??? I would say yes, and how much, thanks, paying 21 Ls |
If that doesn't work, try http://www.justairports.com/
|
Or you can take the Heathrow Express light - the new stopping Heathrow-Paddington service that doesn't take all that much longer and is cheaper than the Heathrow Express itself.
|
Another one of those questions that was topped after a couple of years. I strongly suspect specter is no longer looking for this information. While responses may be good for others, it hardly seems to make sense to keep adding to this thread, when there are so many more recent ones.
|
Actually, Larrymp tacked his current question about tipping to this old thread.
Yes - yoy will want to tip between 10% and 15% depending on the service. |
Yes, but he also wisely started a new thread with that tipping question as well -- a much better idea.
|
No he didn't. That thread is by someone else. In fact this is Larrymp's first and only post . . . . .
|
Weird, I assumed it was the same as the other JustAirports tipping question today. Meanwhile he's not the one who topped this old thread. It was topped by the poster before about Airbus, Mercyheart.
Oh well. I always get confused by these old posts as I fail to look at the dates before I answer them. |
Mountains out of mole hills?
|
More mtn from mole hill - yes merseyheart did top this a month ago to lament about Airbus.
But larrymp registered today and topped it to add his question . . . . . |
What mountains?
