Heading to Switzerland

Hi Fodorites!

Just want to say bye for a while. I am heading to Switzerland, Sils in the Engadin, to be correct. I'll stay for 2 weeks and hope to do a lot of hiking, fine dining and some sightseeing in neighbouring regions.

I'll try to check in from time to time, but no guarantee. I promise to post some pictures and write a short report when I am back. Just the highlights since the Engadin has been covered extensively here.

See you, Ingo

Have a nice trip, Ingo and thanks for all your help – we’ll be in Switzerland in less than 4 weeks. We decided to include Engadine (we’ll stay in Celerina) based on your advice and after we saw your pictures.

Hi all,

just a quick hello from Sils. The first day brought some showers and a thunderstorm in the afternoon, but enjoyed it. Had a nice walk around peninsula Chaste over noon ... great photo ops ;-)

Hotel is excellent. Tonight we will have a "concert dinner" in that really beautiful art nouveau dining hall.

Have a great time!

Thunderstorms can be fun to watch if you're not caught out in them.

I am hoping to be in Switzerland later this summer and while my destination won't be quite as jaw droppingly scenic as the Engadin, I'll still be happy to be there!

Hi Ingo:

Will you be taking a meander over into the Val Fex?

Regards, Tuck

Grüezi Ingo,

How's your Romansch coming along? Hope the days stay warm and there won't be much flooding coming your way. We've had some wild thunderstorms in the Innerschweiz too that caused minor flooding.

Enjoy those mountain tops, the architecture and the slower life in those lovely mountain villages!

Tschüss

Hi Ingo, enjoy your holiday!

Thinking of you, kiddo, and wishing you a wonderful visit. Two weeks sounds luxurious. Memorize a few frescoes for me. J.

Hi Ingo, We just got back from 2 weeks in France, Switzerland and Italy. 2 days Chamonix, 2 days Menaggio, 5 days Silvaplana, 2 days Berner Oberland, 2 days Lake Geneva and 2 days Annecy. We had the rain (in Annecy) on the 3rd also. Thanks for all of your tips. My husband and I both enjoyed the Engadine region. We loved the apartment in Silvaplana. I wish you a great visit and good weather!
Deb

Allegra/Bun Di!

Does that answer your question about my Rumantsch, schuler? ;-)

Hi jmw! Long time no hear, eh? Think of you a lot, especially when seeing frescos, LOL.

Btw, it's a cool July in Switzerland as it seems. At least in the mountains. Sunday - rain, today - rain. Thunderstorms on both days. Still, did very nice hikes on Friday and Saturday. Took lots of photos ... and found the most beautiful mountain lake. Lake Cavloc, in a side valley from Maloja.

Tuck, tomorrow we'll have dinner in the Fex valley. Transportation is by horse-drawn carriage. All that included in the hotel's half-board plan. And I plan to hike from Furtschellas cable-car top station down into Fex Valley later this week.

Quite a trip, deb! Sounds fantastic. And five nights in Silvaplana are exactly right for a first visit. They have a surf championship on the lake right now - very intersting.

Ok, rain has stopped, sun comes out. Must head out!

Hi quokka! ;-)

Adieu, Ingo

Have you seen any swans? Take a photo so I can see when you post them.

I just love swans.

Hi there Ingo, glad to hear from you again. A horse-drawn carriage ride is included in your hotel package? How cool is that!!

"It's a cool July in Switzerland as it seems. At least in the mountains."

That's music to my ears. I'll be there soon and am looking forward to cooling off a bit from this Texas heat we've been having.

Hang in there, Ingo! The weather is supposed to turn around for the better in the next few days!

Thin,

We saw two mother swans with their babies swimming around the canal in Brunnen while strolling through a Harley Davidson festival. GunZ and Roses were singing live (note spelling of group) while people were drinking beer and espressos on the Ausland Schweizer Platz /field along the shores of the Vierwaldstättersee.

It's time to head back to Switzerland, Thin. The swans are calling out to you.

LLindaC Jul 7th, 2008 07:37 AM

We had a crazy swan which followed us through the locks on the Burgundy canal. We threw it pizza scraps, but it kept attacking the buoys on the back of the boat. I thought it was going to jump aboard! They are lovely, but not very nice it seems.
