Headed to Paris

Bon Jour! I am headed to Paris for 6 weeks by myself. I plan on taking some cooking classes, tour, shop and be Parisian. I wanted to see if anyone out there had any advice for fun tours, classes etc that I should hit while I am there. I am living in the 18th. Love to get some ideas.

Don't know your age group, but hub and I (when in our 40s and 50s) took some Cityrama bus trips. You can check em out online, if only for ideas. They can be pricey but there were times when we wanted someone else to do all the "heavy lifting" with tickets and driving and guiding. We took a Paris at Night tour with dinner in Eiffel Tower after, day trip to Bruges and day trip to 3 or 4 chateaux. Enjoyed them all. We took ourselves to Versailles. Never made it to Giverny (must if you are a Monet fan) though.

Other Fodorites can give you cooking school info-that sounds like it would be fun.

Are you interested in art, architecture and/or history? Also, start reading and see what calls out and we can make comments/suggestions from that.

I will also be in Paris traveling solo shortly.
I had very good luck with both Paris Walks and Context tours.
Paris walks is very inexpensive while Context is high end.
Its a great way to connect with others and learn interesting things about the City.

Short courses are offered by Cordon Bleu. go to their web-site and enroll as if you plan to be a student and follow the links to the short courses. It's a bit tricky, but you will find them.

Also, MichaelOsman a private Guide (he and his partner are American ex-pats) offers very affordable tours - he will tailor them to your interests (a cooking/food tour perhaps?) He can be reached by e-mail at [email protected]
