Rialtogrl - It was from expatwealthadvice.com. I finally got around to reading it, but, for me, there was nothing new. Was just talking about people being taxed on worldwide income, having to list all worldwide assets on form 720, and how SpAin will be able to look at everone's assets in three mos time. None of this is new, but perhaps people weren't aware of this before. Life in Spain for expats was so much better in pre-EU days !

You asked for examples of protests. And just because the protests in the streets have stopped, does not mean the corruption has not. There are many examples of people being arrested for corruption since then.

We have a saying in America, "Quit while your behind."
X country
That is for future reference.
Of course it is hard to remember protest marches that have not taken place yet.

Street protests should never be a factor for tourists as rarely are they caught up in any and can easily avoid - I mean this is not like Prague Spring, etc.
Spector of street protests would not affect my travel plans and redolent of Amsterdam in 70s and 80s rather exciting IME.
Paris has probably more periodic protests blocking some streets, etc but no one thinks about that.

MY SIL is navigating her way through the every day culture of Madrid and the Spanish bureaucracy. She has rented a beautiful apartment between Sol and Plaza Santa Ana. She was careful to make sure it is on a quiet street. My biggest fear is that she will fill her apartment with crap from the Rastro. She is addicted to it. Maybe by the time we visit in the Spring, that allure will be gone. Looking forward to pretending I'm a madrileño for a few weeks.

IMD - While I can't envisage a quiet street in that area, perhaps she's pulled it off. If she has real problems with the bureaucracy, she can always turn to a gestoria for help. What fun she must be having, as will you during your sojourn there. Will you be in Madrid for San Isidro ?

The word "remember" used on its own is not past tense.
You have to use an indicative to make it past tense.

She has visited the street at different times of the day/night and through the miracle of the Internet, we have seen the street and the nearby cross streets and looks fine. October 2016 we stayed near Plaza Santa Ana and remember some of the streets, not hers, and it was not too bad.
I compare it to living in Manhattan on West 46 Street between 9th and 10th Avenues, near the madness but far enough away.
She also has sound proof windows for whatever relief that provides.
I was surprised too, by the location.
No we will gone by San Isidro. One of her other sisters will probably be with her then.
