Elvira; how lovely to hear from you. Where did you go this year?

I'm so glad you like Islay-nb spelling for book; does it matter that a child from there would only have spoken Gaelic at that time? or will you use artistic licence? I keep trying to steer people there, but few take me up on it because it's off the beaten track (are you "listening" Linda?)

Which B&B did you stay in on the island? And which was your favourite whisky?

We have no plans to visit Transylvania this year, but Laura and Jamie, who have your books are off to california in a couple of weeks.

Thank you again for sending them

I'm afraid that this sounds like an excuse by you Sheila, to provide a platform for everyone to tell you how great you are.

<What did I get right/wrong? - oh come on, dont you just want us to say '
Well gee, sheila, you got it ALL right, you are so great.'

What a load of s***.

Well, OK, we're already familiar and used to the fact that there are some people who feel the need to spit in public and express their mean-spirited personalities... But who cares?

We have visited Scotland this past summer. Sheila was TREMENDOUSLY helpful. And, after visiting there for a week, and learning to know a bit the people (warm and helpful, open, funny and real), I may dare to say that she is a typical Scot...

We absolutely LOVED the B&B in Edinbourgh (Lauderville, found it myself on the net). The itinerary we built together was very well used. We especially liked Skye. I would say that another Scotland trip could be planned somewhere in our future...

Keep up the good work, Sheila.

Amik.

Sheila, sadly we didn't make it to Scotland this summer, but Scotland was where my now husband and I went on our first together trip overseas. I always make a point of reading your posts and wishing we'd seen more then we did and plotting for ways to return. All these great responses bring me back to wonderful Scotland. You are a gem!

You are a wonderful tour director and
promoter of your wonderful country. Really appreciated you input, although
I must admit we didn't follow it to the
letter. Had a few great days in Edinbrough a great walking city. Went
to the theatre one night, touring com-
pany of a great play called the Heiress
and asked for OAP tickets, embarassing
as they only charged us a pound. Loved
Ullapool and the drive around the north
we had tea in the Tongue HOtel way up
north and the weather was so warm we
should have gone for a soda. Great advice on Skye and the Hotel Eilean Donan (sp?) was as wonderful as you said. The scenery was aweinspiring for
the most part, people great and the food
was good even tried black pudding. We
had a great time at Edradour distillery.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Bill
Cara Sanat Chiara

Benvenuti nella Scozia. (OK that's enough pretension)

People fly fish basically for sea trout, salmon and brown trout; in rivers and lochs.

Depending on what you want to do and where, different seasons are best. Essentially you are talking about late May to late July being best.

A good beat on a good river can cost thousands; but you can do all right with less than the best.

Top of the range- a week on the Tay or Spey in the height of the season.

Perfectly acceptable- fishing on North Uist's hundreds of lochs.

Lots of hotels do packages with permits attached. My brother is a keen fisherman and I have tapped him for advice for people before. If you can be more specific I'll try to narrow it doen for you.

Hi Sheila,
This is my first time to this site. My husband and I are coming to Scotland March 15 - 25. This is our first time there (first trip to Europe). I have many questions: Are we going to freeze? (This is the only time we could make the trip work.) We fly into Glasgow around 10:00 a.m. on the 16th and were planning to rent a car, drive to Edinburgh for the night, then head for Aviemore on the 17th, where we'll be staying for 6 days. Are we rushing things? We want to explore as much of Scotland as we can in that time. We fly out of Glasgow on the 25th. My husband's ancestors are Scottish (Duncan), and I've been devouring Scottish history--we're so excited. We're 26 and 30 years old and live in Denver, Colorado. Is there anything we should prepare for? Any destination or scheduling suggestions?
