Have you seen The Northern lights (Aurora Borealis) ?

http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/im...a-borealis.jpg

Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) occur in the high northern lattitudes. They are quite rare but spectacular.
They are sometimes seen as far South as UK.

My friends in Sweden have set up a webcam using a fish eye lens to record the sky.
The resulting images, over 24 hours have been reduced to a couple of minutes.

See the images here : http://the-languedoc-page.com/phpBB2...pic.php?t=864]

Needs ADSL, or an awful lot of patience !

Wow! That is awesome!

I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights. Despite my aversion to cold weather (grew up in Wisconsin and moved to SoCal) I am determined to see them one day.

Thank you so much for sharing!

We had great aurora borealis display from an evening flight from Toronto to Vancouver last February. We were near Saskatoon at the time and on the north side of the plane. Perhaps people on overnight flights to Europe should look out the window now and then.

I am lucky enough to be able to see them from my house. Used to see them more when I was a child, but then the city was smaller tand there were fewer city lights to interfere

Count me in as one of those who would love to see the Northern Lights one day. Lucky Fodorites to have seen them!

I live in Spokane, Washington, and I used to see them when I was young-probably in the mid 50's or thereabouts--before the city became built up north of town. Now the lights of the city interfere.

The most spectacular were the ones I saw one summer when I was working in Northern Canada. Blue/green, red. Spectacular!

I spent my first nine years in Kitimat B.C.
The Aurora Borealis are what woke me up at night.

I walked out of a restaurant in Anchorage one night and was absolutely stunned. The Northern Lights were a spectacular waving rainbow curtain from the horizon to straight up. I had seen the Lights once before from here in Michigan but not nearly so noteworthy.

I saw them once whilst in up in the north of Finland.

My wife slipped on the snow as we left a bar and landed on her back looking up. We spent the next 20 minutes freezing but watching an amazing show of lights.

If my wife had not fallen over (or had a couple of extra glasses of wine) we would have missed it all.

I spent the first twelve years of my life in Fairbanks...the lights were stunning, really the most amazing things. Have been to Alaska several times since then, but my timing has been off.

We see them from here in Aberdeenshire most winters- but usually only as a glow in the sky. Twice in my adult lifetime they've reached spectacular
