ETIAS Requirements
A recent Fodor's Travel stated that travelers under 18 and over 70 are not required to apply for ETIAS. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Travelers under 18 and over 70 will have the fee waived, but they will still need to apply. Fodor's should correct their artivle.

Welcome to Fodors. This just a public discussion forum -- none of us work for Fodors nor make editorial changes. If you've found an error in an article you probably shoud e-mail the author or editor -- IME contact information is usually included (several years ago I e-mailed an author about a minor mistake in a travel feature -- and received a reply but the article was not modified)

I hope when ETIAS is introduced (whenever that may be) people will not rely on Fodor's, either editorial or forums for definitive information on it.
At least the EU is giving free ETIAS to young and old, unlike others with similar schemes like the US and the UK. Cheap too. |
Have You Read About E.U. Countries Requiring a Visa??
Heard on the radio this will go into effect in 2024. I haven't read any details. Anyone have info?

It isn't a visa. It is the same idea as the ESTA which we need to visit the US. It has been in the pipeline for a long time. Remains t be seen when they will actually implement the thing. The date keeps moving forward. Costs peanuts, free for young and old though they still need one, and lasts three years.
The UK is also introducing a similar thing, which costs more and last two years. |
Two threads about ETIAS have been merged

This is the EU info site (official) https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en it has been in discussion for years. When it happens, it’s not going to be much of a biggie. |
Rumour is May next year but I suspect it will wait until after the Olympics, same as the EES.

The EU will be requiring of European visitors a similar screening procedure that the US has been using for years now for visitors from the EU. You send a request for permission to visit the EU, and unless you are a terrorist or otherwise a criminal it will be a simple formality. You request your ETIAS, and unless you are particularly heinous, you then get the confirmation, unless you are some kind of miscreant.

ETIAS is for nationals of visa-exempt countries.

I can thoroughly recommend my vet near Saint Emilion , he breaks all the current EU rules and issues EU passports to all nationalities. You just need the correct rabies vaccinations.. hope this helps.
