Have you heard of Konz Germany?

Can you tell me anything about Konz, Germany?

logos999 Sep 30th, 2006 01:39 PM

You mean the tax guy/book?

donnae_b Sep 30th, 2006 01:42 PM

Konz, Germany is in the Trier Region. I am just wondering why I might want to visit this part of Germany and if someone has ever been there before.

Thank you.

Sorry, never heared about it. The name just rings a bell for every German ;-)

As it is near Trier on the Mosel River, you might get more response if you posted your same question about Trier, a former Roman colony town. I visited Trier some years ago and it was worth the trip to see the Porta Nigra and some of the underground works associated with the bath. I liked even better traveling along Mosel River past Bernkastel-Kues towards Koblenz. It is a good wine region. I do not think that you would be lacking things to see and do.

I visited Trier and nearby Saarbrucken this summer; Trier was pretty interesting, with a nice cathedral and a very old feel to it (in addition to the Porta Negra and the baths, which another poster mentioned). Saarbrucken was a nice town although not terribly memorable. If I'm not mistaken, there was a neat outdoor Saturday market right by the train station (Hbf).

Thank you all for your help. I may have relatives in this particular town.
All of your comments were useful.

My Mom's maiden name is Konz and my uncle has traced our family tree back to church records in Konz, Germany.
I hope to visit there this coming March.
Are we related??

AuntAnnie, Who is your mom? I will look her name up in my geneology records.

My Grandfather was Anthony Konz. He lived in Minnesota and had (11!!) children. He farmed. My Mom is the youngest, named Edith.
Have you been to Konz?
I think we will stay in Trier and do a day trip to Konz.

Hi Annie, My Grandfather was Stephan Anthony Konz, Born in Hungary. He and his wife moved to Riblake Wisconsin.
Interesting as Minnesota is right next to Wisconsin.
Anyway, feel free to email me if you find there may be a connection.

Konz is a quite beautiful wine village on the Mosel, very close to Trier and close to Luxembourg.

Trier is a first-rank tourist destination with lots of Roman heritage, including the Porta Nigra - a huge gate -, the Basilika - the Roman Palace, almost 100% intact -, several thermae, an amphitheater, two excellent archeological and historical museums, a nice historical old town and the birthplace of Karl Marx. You will enjoy the town.

Luxembourg is also worth a trip, especially a visit of the casemates.

And lots of opportunities for wine-tasting. I personally like the Auxerrois - a white grape which grows on the upper Mosel.
