Have you flown British Airways recently? Please help Me. Help Please....

I was told by BA that I was allowed only one carry on and a purse. Carry on could only weigh 13 pounds not an ounce more! I'm
taking a small-madium book bag type bag with wheels, it weighs 5-6 pounds emepty. What I'd like to know is, has anyone one here at Fodors used BA very recently and can tell me, if I can take a large purse. And how very strict are they? The lady at BA told me that ALL AIRLINES HAVE BEEN ONLY ALLOWING ONE 13 POUND BAG! And a hand bag/ or Purse. I KNOW THIS IN NOT TRUE BUT SHE ARGUED WITH ME! I never thought to check before I bought my tickets! I've also heard some bad reports on them here too. Does anyone have anything good to say about them? Thank you very much for any and all help. Alice

We just flew BA from LA to Heathrow and back in the last two weeks. They were strict on carryon in LA the day we flew. Only one per person in coach. A purse is OK too as long as it did not look like a piece of luggage . We fly BA usually and know they are strict and can (if they want to) weigh your carryon, so we limit it to 13-15 pounds. Never had a problem, but then we don't take on wheeled suitcases either. And yes, I believe all airlines are limiting coach customers to one bag plus a purse. That's the result of 9/11 so the women was not giving you some wild tale.

Returning from Heathrow the plane was only 1/2 full and they were not so strict about carryon's, but we did see two people stopped and asked to check their bags because they had huge duffle bags they were thinking to take on as carryon's. They were taken away from them.

No one weighed our carryon, but if it looks like it weighs a ton they will check it out. I would not take chances, we don't and in the long run it saves you a lot of stress.

Call the other airlines and find out. They all are pretty strict depending on season. I am debating between BA and AF to fly from Washington to Rome. I flew previously on AA to Europe and it was just as bad as their domestic flights. So this time I am opting for a European line. Do let me know at my email address. Bon Voyage

Oops I did not read my post over .. I meant to say only one carryon per person in coach.

As to your other question, does anyone have anything good to say about BA .. well, I do. They are fine, very professional and the food was quite decent (not gourmet mind you, but decent). The flight attendants were all polite, friendly and helpful. The planes were clean, they were on time, their airport staff all seemed very pleasant. All in all we prefer BA to many other airlines.

Both BA and Virgin are strict about the number and weight of cabin luggage - and have been for years. No other airline I have flown across the Atlantic has had the same restrictions. I always have to modify my packing when flying BA or VS.

Hi again, Thank you everyone for your help and fast replies.<(sp)? I know one bag is always allowed on almost all Airlines, It was the weight of the bag that I was talking about. I'm sorry for the miss understanding. I did call BA airlines already, that is how I found out about that information about them. Just that on many other airlines it is much more weight allowed on in the carry on, Like 40 pounds on Air France. that is what I was also allowed with Delta too. Thank you Lori, I didn't think British-ways went that bad so fast. I was transfered to them a year ago, and I liked them very much. I was Praying this was still true. Thank you again everyone, and Lori for easing my mind about traveling on BA. Anyone else out there with good travels reports on BA? Alice

we frequently fly BA, Orlando to London..and I have seen them actually weigh carryon bags, and insist on them being checked. They have never said a word though about my purse..boy would they be surprised what that weighs!

I have heard some adverse comments about BA lately too, but I have always been pleased with their flights from here.

Stewart, the service may not be that great on AA, though I have never had a complaint, but those extra inches in the seat make up for it! And they are always on time, at least the last 5 or 6 times we flown with them to London and paris
