It's not in the palace of Versailles, just next to its grounds. I believe that at times heads of state do stay in the Grand Trianon.

Wow--to me, this just sounds so cool but, I guess a person's interest would probably be based on how interested in Versailles you are.

I have this odd notion that at least one person will post about it on TripAdvisor and talk about the "small" bedrooms, how the staff was "rude" and that it isn't "charming."

I am very interested in Versailles and have been there at least a dozen times, taken tour groups there even. But I have no interest in staying in Versailles, nor is it a period of history I would care to emulate by spending lavishly to mimic the lifestyle of the original residents, even if it's outside the actual palace buildings.

If staying as a guest of the hotel gives access to the gardens out of hours, I'd do it just to be able to photograph early morning mist and light on canals.
