Have you done it yet? (booked your summer airfare)
Well less than three months out and I don't have airline tickets. I keep checking the fares and they are more than I have ever paid. Planning to fly June 3 and return June 17....how many of us in Fodor's land are waiting to book summer flights? And how close to your travel dates are you willing wait?

I booked mine back on 2/13, when a great one-day sale opened up on Travelocity, and got a great deal. Something similar MIGHT come up again, but I wasn't willing to wait. $488 including taxes, nonstop Virgin flight MIA to LON June 23-July 9 -- even with the add-on Aer Lingus flight to SNN and back from DUB for $150, this is a great deal.
Good luck!

suec1, I'm still waiting!! I'm flying out July 27 and returning in August and still have not bought my tickets. IAD to FRA. I'm being a bit picky in that my husband is very tall so we'd like to fly direct (United Airlines). I may regret holding out but I'll take my chances

I'm flying to Europe in July (high price season)! Last week I used some tips, from Rick Steves Graffiti Wall, Flying to Europe topic & from friends & really lucked out. I live near Baltimore & want to be in So. Spain between 7/15 - 22. I'm flexible w/where & when I fly to as long as I am in Spain on those dates. On SideStep.com, I saw that least expensive flights connected from BWI to JFK to DUB or LHR using Aer Lingus, before getting to Spain. I went to Aer Lingus.com and saw they were having a Summer Sale for $254 ea way JFK to DUB. Then I went to Ryanair & saw I can fly for less than $10 to London-STN and from there to So. Spain for about $40!! I decided that due to the incredibly inexpensive airfare, I can spend a few days in London, also (using Hilton Honor points for hotel). We have 2 adults and one child...for US to Europe we are paying $567 RT (incl tax) ea adult and $520 (incl tax) for the child.

I haven't decided if we're going this summer (daughter and me). There are too many variables in play to know if it will be feasible or not. But I've seen many great $600-700 all-in airfares from Seattle to various spots in Europe go by.

Cherylforeurope - I want an openjaw ticket - ATL to AMS and BCN to ATL - was hoping for Delta direct flights (I know that is not the cheapest) but the whole Delta situation adds another layer of uncertainty to my decision.

seetheworld, I think the VA sale started in the am on 2/11 and went to very early Monday morning, as friends of mine booked about 6:30 am on 2/13. They paid $406 with tax JFK-LHR.
I subscribe (free) to Airfarewatchdog.com and they alerted me to the sale via e-mail.

Does anyone have suggestions for good sources for less expensive fares to Paris from the middle of the US? I'm in Colorado, and we never see the sales, etc. from the East Coast cities. I usually go to Europe in early summer or winter, but I'm a poor professor with an NEH grant for July 3-August 3. The fares start at 1300 from Denver and Colorado Springs. I'd appreciate any tips on how and when to find more affordable airfares-- this price eats up about half my budget. I scan several times daily kayak, sidestep, travelocity, expedia, orbitz, united and stn. I clear out my cookies and temporary files before each search. Thanks.

Hi lilybart--
Since you're a prof you can book through studentuniverse.com. You'll need to register through your .edu email account and fax them your faculty ID at some point in the process. But you can get some good deals through them. I've used them twice before and was satisfied. I'd also check STA Travel (formerly known as Council Travel).
Are you doing an NEH summer seminar?
