Have you been to Greenwich? If so we'd like your help.

If you are familiar with Greenwich could you take a minute to take part in our poll?

If you only had a day where would you take a visitor in Greenwich?

Many thanks

I need to go to Eltham Palace before I can decide which attraction I like best. It might be my favourite and I just don't know it yet.

The A-Z of services is very intriguing though - 'donkeys' 'massage licences' and 'Jamie Oliver'!

No sticks of celery, egg whisks or flying helmets?

I did Eltham Palace a few years ago simply because i had a B&B nearby and i had a Great British heritage pass

and i waz surprised - no stuffy old palace though there is a bit of a ruin incoprated into the church i believe

but an art deco marvel - famous rich bloke who was a gadfly with cars, etc. - can't remember details but a Howard Hughes type without the phobias.

Very interesting place - we had to wear some kind of special slippers during the tour.

Not your typical boring historic home thank God

I think the Courtaulds had it refurbished in that style. It is said to be an art deco masterpiece.

Would the slippers have been to protect the rugs? (?textile family?).

I think it was because of the inlaid wood floors but not sure

Eltham Palace was indeed the Courtaulds. It's a "palace" as there are the ruins of an ancient royal palace in the grounds.

And Jamie Oliver is on the website because Jamie's School Dinners was done in Kidbroke School (one of ours)

I'm not sure what "donkeys" is doing on there. Unless it's a reference to the intimate proportions of a staff member.

Greenwich to me is one of the best day excursions, or half-day even to do in London

There really is something extraordinary here - first and foremost the Royal Naval College's great classical buildings and Maritime Museum - plus Royal Observatory in a vast park - cross the Meridien from hemipshere to hemisphere

And the Cutty Sark and other ships, views over the Thames, historic riverside pubs, a vibrant market and bustling town

A great way to go to Greenwich is by ship on the Thames and then for variety take the unique Docklands Light Railway (DLR) back to London proper - this automated people mover built mainly on high raised pillars affords a bird's eye view of the sprawling Docklands development, one of the most important business centres in Europe. Get off at Canary Wharf for a closer look at the marvelous enough modern architected buildings

Take the DLR to Bank or Tower Gateway for connections to Tube.

A great great excursion, in spite of snarly civil servants lurking about in Greenwich Town Hall
