Here's my list of things I have done for my trip to Italy. What have I forgotten to do?
Booked my tours........
Train tickets, car rental and air europe tickets purchased......
All hotels confirmed.....
Called all the banks and credit unions to tell them we are going.....
Copied credit cards and passports......
Bought money belts.......
Bought pop up maps for Venice, Florence and Rome. And large map of Tuscany......
Got international Driver's permit......
Have electric converter for curling iron....
Taking wash cloths, soap,wipes, and plastic bags......
Taking book to read....
Taking extra batteries for digital camera ( instead of charger).......
Lists of restaurants, and do's and don't's in the big cities........(thieves, etc)
Any other suggestions?

Leave an itinerary with someone at home with phone numbers & also a copy in your suitcase.

Thanks Carrybean..... Yes, I did that already, just forgot to list it.........
And I made up little pieces of paper with our hotel addresses on it for the taxis.......
And I am taking phone calling cards. Decided that was the best for us......

If you bought new shoes, did you break them in yet? Did you pack a few OTC medications that might be difficult for you to find or more expensive in Italy (just a couple pills of the major ones and a few bandaids)?

Hi bblount, do you have the phone numbers of how to call your credit card companies, banks and credit union from Italy as their toll free numbers will not work in Italy.

Regarding yuor elecctric converter for the curling iron, I believe you need an adaptor also as electrical outlets are different in Italy.

Hope you have a wonderful time! If you have your tix, credit cards & some cash along with your passport, anything you forgot can be bought. Enjoy! I'm jealous.

What are you doing in your house..turn off AC, water, water heater, power to washer or close valves on water lines, stop mail and newspapers, have someone check for packages,unplug computer and TV..unless you really trust your surge protecter!

i would bring the charger if it can handle the voltage. chances are you will be taking more pics than you ever do at home so why leave the charger behind? disposable batteries do not work well in digital cameras due to the great demand on power and they are a poor solution considering all the pics you will be taking.

I agree with walkinaround. I did as you are planning to do, and I was really sorry I didn't have my battery charger! I bought 4 new AA batteries about every other day, and they aren't cheap over there. I ended up buying another battery charger to use there, and it wasn't easy to find. I spent way too much time searching for batteries. Spare yourself the trouble. Bring your charger.

As to the converter, I have a voltage converter that is for Italy. With the round plugs...
As to the credit card companies, the main ones that I am using, gave me collect #s to call. But the alternate cards gave me toll free #s. Also, Citi Bank told me about a program they have that only costs me $1.00 for the first 30 days. If I lose or have any of my cards stolen, I can call them collect and they will take care of contacting all the companies my cards are with..... Plus replace my card and give me cash right away... So, I decided to sign up for it. I can cancel it as soon as I get home, with no penalty. Has anyone else used this?
As to the camera charger, I'll try to fit it in......

The most important thing to bring on a self planned European holiday--or, indeed, on any holiday--is a sense of humor. You can draw upon that when things pop up--and they always do.

Hi bblount, I had that program with my AT&T Visa (which is now CitiBank). My husband lost his wallet, well so he thought. I called that program and they did call all of the other credit card companies. However a couple of them would not issue a new card until he personally called and requested a replacement. Fortunatly we were home so that wasn't a problem. And uhm, he found his black leather wallet in his black leather shoe two days later, sigh..don't ask, LOL.

Your FIRST trip to Italy..the first trip is always the most magical in my opinion bblount!!! Enjoy ever precious moment.

I guess it depends on your camera and how many photos you take, but we took well over 300 photos using 8 non-rechargeable AA batteries. We edited and dumped photos every night and had over 300 keepers. (The camera takes 4 batteries)
