oh, and for more trivia

I just googled, apparently Johnny Mercer had a big hit recording of BBICO sung with Margaret Whiting

bookchick Dec 23rd, 2004 10:45 AM

Elaine, yes! Although "Neptune's Daughter" did not have a holiday theme, the song "Baby It's Cold Outside" won the Academy Award for Best Song. Another version of this song with Leon Redbone (whom I adore) and Zooey Deschanel played over the credits at the end of the movie "Elf", now available on DVD.

bc, I didn't know it won the Oscar.
Bolsters my opinion of my own good taste:-d

Thanks for the info the Elaine, and for the Oscar trivia BC. I'd never have known that.

And savour it, ladies; good taste is rare these days !

Happy Chrismahanukwanzikah!

ThinGorjus Dec 23rd, 2004 02:12 PM

My Christmas wish: to be reclining on Bondi Beach in Australia, sipping on a Bombay martini, whilst a naked Viggo Mortensen fans me with a palm frond. :)

A white Christmas means white sand to me. I HATE snow. Snow is EVIL.

Happy New Year,
John G, Keith, and Jackie O

Johnny Mathis and Christmas go together like rum and hot buttered, but he can't have "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." That one belongs to Andy Williams.
As a consolation, Johnny gets "It's a Marshmallow World" or "Winter Wonderland."

Neil_Oz Dec 23rd, 2004 04:53 PM

Would I be spoiling the mood by mentioning that here in Canberra it's 32C (90F)? Happy holidays, all.

ThinGorjus, there are better beaches than Bondi, but if it's wall-to-wall hungover and slowly broiling British packpackers you want, you can't do better! (Is Viggo Nortensen one of Santa's elves, perhaps?)

Which reminds me - in the spirit of inclusiveness I heard a brief interview with a guy in California (Allan Katz - sp?) who's created not only a merged Hanukkah-Christmas holiday called Hanumas, but the character of Kosher Claus (complete with Hasidic black hat and sidewhiskers along with the red suit). Hilarious stuff.

elaine Dec 23rd, 2004 05:00 PM

Neil
you're not spoiling MY mood, if I could, I'd be on the next plane I'd be on the beach down under
I can't imagine he'd be comfortable in that heavy red suit and hat, does Santa/Father Christmas wear shorts where you are?

Scarlett Dec 23rd, 2004 05:01 PM

Thin, very funny. Not a bad wish LOL
It's Viggo Mortensen ~BTW~ Lovely man~

massagediva Dec 23rd, 2004 05:13 PM

Merry Christmas, and may Santa finance your next dream trip!

crefloors Dec 23rd, 2004 06:29 PM

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) Mel Torme...the best. Please all you people in the snow country, be safe, stay warm, and if you have loved ones coming, I hope they make it to you or are already there. Have a Merry Christmas.

Just bursting with seasonal spirit -- result of Laphroaig embalming procedure this afternoon at the office -- hence sending all the best to elaine, Judy in Calgary, Scarlett (troll-debunker extraordinaire) gentlemanly Rex, erudite bookchick, Budman, Neil in OZ, moonchild way up north and all the posters who have made 2004 so special...

AnselmAdorne Dec 23rd, 2004 07:21 PM

Looks like our Christmas is going to be delayed. My daughter, who attends the University of Ottawa, spent seven hours in the Ottawa airport this afternoon and evening waiting for a flight that was finally cancelled. (I gather there was an aircraft, but no crew ... ah the joys of a Candain winter!)

Next available seat: late in the afternoon of Christmas Day. We'll just move the whole celebration (including my 55th birthday) to Boxing Day.

In the meantime, warmest wishes to all.

Anselm

With a family scattered all over the globe, over the years we always have the holiday, but often observe a shifting date too, Hope your daughter finds her way safely home to help you celebrate your Birthday!
Wishing you, and all here a very Merry Chridtmas (and even better, Boxing Day, together) Here's a toast to the great blessing of being together with loved ones in mind and spirit!)

Hark! The Herald angels sing,
Glory to the new born king!
Peace on Earth and mercy mild.
God and sinners reconciled.
Joyful all ye nations rise.
Join the triumph of the skies.
With th'angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!
