Have 7 days in Greece, should I do one or two islands?

Hello!

We are planning a trip to Italy and Greece for June 2003. We have one week on the Amalfi Coast, and then will fly to Greece.

We definitely want to go to Santorini, and I was thinking of splitting our time between Santorini and either Naxos or Mykonos.

Is this too much with 7 days? Will we feel rushed on each island?

I look forward to your suggestions and advice. Thank you VERY much for your help!! :)

SPENT 10 DAYS ON THE AMALFI COAST LAST SUMMER. AND TRAVEL TO GREECE OFTEN. THERE IS SO MUCH TO CONSIDER WHEN MAKING THIS CHOICE. ESPECIALLY YOUR CONNECTIONS. DO YOU WANT TO FLY OR FERRY BETWEEN ISLANDS. HERE IS A SITE THAT MAY SHED SOME LIGHT ON YOUR QUANDRY.
www.greecetravel.com
SCROLL DOWN TO THE ISLAND SECTION.
Jenny,
We visited Santorini, Naxos and Mykonos a few years ago and felt that about 3 days on each was enough for us. We like to see and do things, rather than lie on the beach. A suggestion would be to fly from Athens to Mykonos for 3 days, then fly Mykonos to Santorini for 4 days, then fly back to Athens. The flights are reasonably priced and it would save heaps of time instead of using ferries. We did a day trip from Mykonos to the island of Delos which was great, an uninhabited island full of wonderful ruined temples, mosaic floors, etc. You can buy a ferry ticket at the port for Delos, journey is about 40 mins.
Kay

I agree about flying to the first island from Athens - saves you crossing the city from airport to port. But I think one ferry journey is worth experiencing, and if you take the hydrofoils it doesnt take much longer than a flight. It is always nice to approach Santorini by boat (the subject of much discussion on this chat board!).
Mykonos is good for clubbing and shopping. Naxos for beaches and hiking / exploring the mountainous interior. Syros is also worth considering - a lovely neoclassical capital-town. For more details on all these places, plus links to ferry timetables etc, a good source is

www.i-escape.com/greece.php

Have fun!
Michael

Crete is incredible! Stay in Chania. I've been back three times. If I was told I have to make a decision and move anywhere in the world, it would be Crete.

Gaia! Can you elaborate? I'd like to hear some of the details that lead you to love Crete so much. Thanks, J.
Hi Jenny, My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Italy and Greece for June/July of 2003 as well. Maybe we could keep in touch and share ideas during the planning stages.
