Haute Provence
I am going to Buis les Baronnies in the Haute Provence region next year. Booked this through cottagesinfrance from Australia. Has anyone used this company or been to the Haute Provence region? Would appreciate your comments.

Haut Provence is beautiful. This is the "true"lavender growing area. The other lavender called lavandin(a hybrid)
Buis-Les-Baronnies is in the Provençal Drome area. It was the former capital of the Baronnis area. A signposted route in the old town will guide you from the 15th century arcaded square to the remains of the old 12th centry town walls with a saffre tower or the Renaissance door of the former chapel of the Ursulines Convent. The market days there are Wednesday and Saturday mornings. |
Les Alpes de Haute Provence is the region of the picturesque Gorge du Verdon and also the perched village of Moustiers-Ste.-Marie, full of charm and known for its beautiful hand made/painted faience. A trip to Moustiers and lunch at Restaurant les Santons will surely be on your itinerary!

I'll second grandmere's suggestions. The ride throught 'the grand canyon'of France, the gorge de verdon is beautiful as is the food at the Santon and also the Bastide de Moustiers. moustiers-St-Marie is noted for the production of Faience, so there are many shops selling full lines; and some that will have dishes designed at your request.

Thanks cigalechanta and grandmere. I'll certainly take notes and put in my travel folder.

Be sure to get a reservation for Les Santons and ask to be seated on the patio.

yes!!! someone is going to Drome ! yahoooo ! that's the best place ever
With tye TGV train stopping in Avignon, the vaucluse area of provence is very crowded. Drome is a bit more remote and quieter. I love it, but I am biased because I used to live there ;-) I think that technically, the area is named drome provencale... here is a web site for the area: http://www.la-drome-provencale.com Buis les baronnies is also a french capital for Tilleul (lindel tree ???) From there you can go to: Vaison la romaine and the Mont Ventoux Nyons : olive's capital and many beautiful small villages. Gorge du Verdon in alpes de haute provence a a bit further away but when I lived there we used to go there on a day trip. Celine |
