Hausfrau or anyone else familiar with Stuttgart...

We revised our September itinerary to include a three nite stay in Stuttgart so we can visit the Porsche factory and the Mercedes Musuem. Now we are looking for hotel recommendations in central Stuttgart.

I could give you some recommendations, but I would like to know your price range.

Okay, you are driving a Porsche:

- Hotel am Schlossgarten is the number one in Stuttgart. Traditional atmosphere. I have stayed there quite a few times.

- Le Meridien is very good, bright modern. I have stayed there once. With pool.

It's great to hear that your plans are coming together and that you are spending a few days in Stuttgart.

Personally, I'd stay at the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin - you can't get a better location and I have heard it's the nicest large hotel in Stuttgart. I haven't stayed there but my husband has. The Meridien is not as convenient if you want to walk around downtown, especially at night, because you have to get across a huge busy street and the Schlossgarten.

The Hotel am Schlossgarten is on the Koenigstrasse across from the Hauptbahnhof and the Steigenberger is one block off the Koenigstrasse and also across from the Hauptbahnhof - both are perfectly situated for shopping and dining.

But, I'll bet the Meridien is less expensive than both, and that may be your deciding factor.

the steigenberger for sure if you are staying in Stuttgart. You might consider staying outside of the city. Perhaps Sindelfingen (where Daimler is located). I assume you are driving. A smaller city may give you a better taste for Germany.

Thanks everyone. I will check out the hotels you mentioned. Can always cancel Le Meridien if need be.

And we will not be driving.
