Hauling luggage on cobblestones & onto ferries

Usually when we travel, and in spite of our good intentions, we wind up with a wheeled suitcase and two wheeled carry-on pieces of luggage. Plus my tote bag. Is this going to be a problem walking from the taxi stop at the gate in Dubrovnik to our apartment in the old town, and getting on and off the Hvar ferry, or catamaran?

lots of other people will be hauling/rolling their luggage off the ferries and along the cobblestone - we've been doing it for years in Croatia. As for being a problem - depends on how much you can lug/lift/roll. If you want easability - limit yourself to one 22' roller suitcase and 1 medium back pack/shoulder bag - Croatia is very casual, don't pack as if you're sailing on the Titanic.

It depends on your physical condition. We normally travel with a couple of 26" or 27" suitcases and one carryon and have never had any particular problems. I suppose when we get older or sickly we'll have to scale back.

Rather than one large shared suitcase (if I understood your post) split into two smaller sized suitcases, one per person, plus one carry-one each that rides on top. You need to be able to lift and carry in spots you can't roll.

Thanks for your help, guys. This site is always so great for suggestions. Suze, I think you hit the nail on the head for us. Sounds like the way to go!

My pleasure. The suitcases rolling but with a lift-up-able handle. The tote bag with a means of attaching to the roller but also a shoulder strap.

Yup, got it. Thanks again!
