Fontainbleu is easy as well, though further from Paris thn Versailles. The wonderful thing about Fontainbleu is that it's a lovely town as well to wander around in, sit at a cafe, etc..

After looking at the RATP site and imputing my info this is what I can do to get to Versailles. Does this sound correct? I want to make sure I am reading this correctly.

Metro stop Filles du Calvaire
to take the Metro 8
direction BALARD
to Invalides -at INVALIDES
take the RER VERO
direction GARE DE VERSAILLES RIVE GAUCHE
to GARE DE VERSAILLES RIVE GAUCHE

Yes - but I wouldn't.

I'd take the N° 96 bus (Direction Gare Montparnasse) to St Michel and get on the RER there. Here's the Filles du Calvaire neighborhood showing the bus stops:

Robespierre, is this route using the bus much quicker? It seems easy enough to pickup rather than the metro. I take it that we would pick up the RER to Versailles rive gauche (VICKS?) from St Michel after buying the Forfaits Loisirs there?

It's about the same enroute time as the Métro - but it's much more scenic.

You would board the same train - either VICK or VERO.

You CAN buy them in advance - but not on line. The English Transilien site is here:

Christina might be right about the signs not being in English. I read French so I might have remembered that part wrong. "Lignes banlieux" would be the French, I think, and it may well say "Transilien" too, like Christina suggests.

It's not THAT big a station, so there are only so many places it could be!
