has registration made you return to Fodors?
 

I have noticed some names recently who were frequent contributors in the past but who seemed to have stopped contributing in the last few months. Has anyone else &quot;returned&quot; to Fodors since registration? <BR>I have always been &quot;for&quot; registration as I think it will encourage more people to contribute without fear of nasty responses.

Never left, but looking forward to not having to scroll through all the unrelated postings.

On the topic of registration- wouldn't it be good if we could now get an edit facility? No matter how often I check before posting I still seem to make mistakes!

I never left. I don't think registration caused people to leave. I think it was the pre registration conditions.<BR><BR>Registration does not bother me.<BR>I said what I had to say with my own name, except when I used a fake one.<BR>

Never left. I always posted my arrogant, snotty, cynical comments as well as my (hopefully) helpful comments under my &quot;real name&quot; and email address.

Yes, Fiona! An edit function would be a great asset to those of us who think faster than we type. Even though I proof my messages there always seems to be at least one mistakke!

I don't mind the registration but from now on I must behave myself and not post under a bunch of different names. No more sarcastic comments...

Helped me to come back so that more of the posts were relevant, and fewer of them were a waste of time....<BR><BR>OTOH: Does anyone know if each person has the ability to make their email address known to others easily? I miss some of the opportunities to email someone &quot;off the board&quot; for things that perhaps weren't as related to the thread as others might like.<BR>Thanks in advance and Best wishes.

Dave-It appears the only way to give your email address is to put it in the body of your post.<BR><BR>Registration or the lack of did not affect me (other than having to pick a consistent screen name!). <BR>

I haven't noticed any difference in posters. It's surprising as much time Fodors put into this that they didn't give it some basic functions -- I don't see why they couldn't have left the email box the way it was before, you could fill it in if you wanted or just put filler xxxx's in it or whatever. I've seen other sites that had registration where it was optional to put in an email (not many people like sites where they insist on publicizing your email address if you don't want).<BR><BR>Being able to edit is a nice function and some boards have it, I do wish they did also. On the other hand, I think their search function is nice and don't think it merits so much complaint -- it works pretty well if used correctly, and mainly it is far far above most other travel boards that don't have any (or ones that function at a lower level than Fodors, like AOL -- they have gazillions of dollars and their search function only works on the subject headers, not the message text).<BR><BR>I don't think it's really that proper to email people you don't know for "off topic" or "unrelated" comments on their post, even if they aren't flames (and folks who do like to email people they don't know to flame them, etc, feel they have the right to email anybody anything they want if they know someone's email address). <BR><BR>

Personally, I am delighted when people e-mail me.......BUT ONLY when they are nice and polite. I "dig" nice and polite and friendly. Rudeness, snottiness and sarcasim, I abhor.

I support and fallow the notion of "I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it?" hell, I almost got kicked out of collage twice for defending free speech or atleast stupid nonsensical speeches, kind of like the postes on this forum..
