Has Europe Gone Red
Just an observation but it looked like A Lot of the Women in Europe Have Dyed their Hair Red / or Red Highlights (Auburn ) The young and Old . Is this the new fashion trend ?
|
Like many other so-called "fashion trends" hair dyeing (red or otherwise)is not new, but rather a return to a previous "new" trend. I somehow doubt this one is going to catch on much across the various age generations.

We noticed this in Italy early last year..this year ,in France, there seemed to a lot less than then.

Please, please, please tell me the tattooing craze is almost over. There's nothing worse (to me anyway) than seeing a hottie with ink all over her arms. Yeccccch!

I am a natural redhead living in Europe, so this trend was interesting to me. How dare these women horn in on our turf ;-)
Anyway, for about two years there seemed to be a big wave of fake redheads. REALLY fake. A lot of women were dying their hair this unattractive, purply-red eggplant or an orangey color that usually didn't go well at all with their skin tone. But in the last six months or so, I've seen fewer and fewer women with dyed red hair. Actually, more of the women I know who color their hair are opting for a rich brunette shade. Since their hair was usually somewhere in the light brown to brunette spectrum anyway, the darker color looks dramatic but in a good way. |
Seems to me this trend peaked about two years ago. I actually spent a day in Provence photographing various ghastly shades of red hair on one trip. The problem is, of course, that hardly any of those shades of red/purple/orange complement skin tones, and put them together with pink/red/orange/purple-toned clothing and you're got a real Hallowe'en-ish fashion statement. From what I've seen, the trend is fading, and that's a good thing.

The color is more orange than red. We call it Ronald McDonald hair.... |
Maybe the German movie "Run Lola Run" got people in the red hair mood.

I mentioned this in a post over a year ago after returning from an extended trip in Italy. I was amazed because there was obviously no effort at all made to get a shade of red that looked natural. Hair was everything from pumpkin orange to cherry red. I found it bizarre.

I have a friend from Moscow whose hair colour can only be described as fire-engine red. One day she was showing me photographs of her family in Russia. "See?", she said, "my mother likes to be fashionable, she dyes her hair red as well."
I guess red is to Europe what blonde is to North America. |
All shades of red is the in thing in Russia as well as sharp pointed shoes.
