Has anyone used SIXT Rent a Car in Italy?

Does anyone have any experience with a car rental agency called SIXT Rent A Car? We got a very competitive rate from this company for a rental in Italy. Would welcome your comments.

I haven't used them, but they have the military contract in Germany, so I would guess they do a pretty decent job and are used to dealing with Americans (assuming you are American, I guess).

only in france (but drove to italy if that counts). I have seen better rates on the net but for some complicated and boring reason went with sixt and found them quite good. We asked for an extra 2 days and they allowed it at the same discount rate that the contract was orginally set at. Also we were 2 hours late and no problems. Whether they are better than others who knows but I can say they seem reputable and professional if that is what you are seeking feedback on.

We used them in Switzerland and they were fine.

Hi

Sixt is tied up with Budget in Europe.
They are one of the big 5 rental co's here

Peter
http://tlp.netfirms.com
As I've said many times on this forum....AutoEurope is the best. You have to see what insurance is included. Sixt is like all the others. They include the CDW (it's a law in Italy) but all the other insurances like liability, fire, etc. they charge a fortune for. The others even charge a deductible of a minimum of $500. and AutoEurope has no deductible. Auto Europe has everything in the price. It comes out much cheaper. They are a consolidator and use Avis and I think Europe Car, but we have always had a beautiful car and wonderful service. I've never heard of anyone having problems with them.

I just want to add that AutoEurope has different rules for different countries. But for Italy they cover every sort of insurance you can have.

Clarification:
SIXT is NOT linked to Budget!

It's a totally independent German company founded and controlled by Eric Sixt. He used to own the Budget franchise for Germany, but that was years ago. They do have a marketing tie-up with Dollar in the US though.

Never used them, but have heard good things about the company (they just never seem to offer the cheapest rates though). They can definitely be considered a European major with a similar presence to Avis, Hertz etc.

More info at:
www.sixt.com

Andre

Thanks for everyone's comments. I'm currious about the posters who say they've found better rates from other companies. Would you mind sharing what websites or companies you're referring to. Sixt's rate was the best we could turn up for a rental out of Rome at about $53USD/day.

We found AutoEurope, which is often recommended here, much more expensive than Sixt, but some posters say we can do even better with other companies. Would you mind sharing what you know about car rental companies with the best rates, or the best websites to use to find them?

I've had good luck with www.carhire4less.co.uk (or is it www.carhire4less.uk.co?). If you're American, you'll have to convert the prices (which are listed in British pounds) to do a comparison with other quotes you get. But it's not a problem when you authorize them to charge the rental to your credit card.
