Has anyone traveled to Italy recently

We are hoping to spend a week in Rome after our Cruise in mid May and I am wondering how things are there. Is it worth going during this Pandemic? Is it easy to get tested in one day before flying back to the USA. We are both fully vaccinated and Boosted. Is it difficult getting into places and using transportation? Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance

Hi Sharon,,

Its been since October when we were there but very easy to get around. Covid tests offered everywhere. No masks outdoors back then but you’d have to check the Italian government website for current conditions

While we were there in September, the case count was down to 3-4,000 a day with 50-60 deaths a day. Currently, there are 100,000 cases a day and nearly 400 deaths a day (largely due to the peak from a couple weeks ago). So, like in the US, the chances of Covid have increased dramatically and the odds of serious illness for those infected has declined. Both those numbers already have dropped a lot from the recent peak as here in the US.

We are returning to Italy in late April and expect the numbers to be back to levels we experienced in the fall. It was very easy to get tested, and reportedly still is, and also very easy to get into restaurants, museums and use public transportation for the vaccinated. One area of change now is that you need to be fully vaccinated and boosted to make the most of things. We found it to be no different than being in the US, except that Italy felt safe to us, with vaccinations and masking more widespread there.

There have been recent outdoor mask rules due to the latest Covid surge, but they are scheduled to be relaxed at the end of this week. Additionally, some tougher local rules in harder hit areas also have been relaxed for vaccinated people, because vaccine rates in Italy are quite high.
