Has anyone stayed at these places in Avignon?

Thanks again to all for your input on this trip.

DH and I have finally decided to stay in Avignon. We also decided to use the train/public transport instead of renting a car, so we felt Avignon was well situated in that regard.

Here are some of our prospective choices:

In Villeneuve-lez-Avignon:

Hotel d'Atelier

Le Mas de Bourbon

In Avignon:

Le Limas
on Rue du Limas

Lumani (in the walled city)

Hostellerie La Magnaneraie

If anyone has stayed at any of these places and has an opinion, I'd be grateful.

Merci,
mom

I stayed in Hotel d'Atelier serveral years ago; it was super for a little 2 star. It was furnished with antiques, and the rooms were "large", as French hotel rooms go, esp. in 2* category. Friendly, helpful owners. And its location across the river from Avignon was great for easier access.

First of all, Villeneuve-les-Avignon is across the Rhône from Avignon. La Magnaneraie is there, way up in the hills. I don't know how you'd manage that with public transportation. However, it's a very nice hotel (we stayed there last September); we quite liked it. It's a 4* and fairly expensive. Note, though, that there is no elevator, and it's a real climb to the upper floors. But the gardens are lovely, and the staff are very helpful.

I remember that you wanted to be within walking distance of sights and restaurants, and this hotel won't fit that criterion. It's in a residential district, and all the commercial activity is down in the village, a fair walk away.

Merci, grandmère - it looks nice enough on the website. I like 4-star, maybe a good 3-star, but it makes DH happy that I'm investigating something cheaper....

U - again, your information is just what I need. I guess we need to stay within Avignon proper. I can never judge how far things are by looking at maps.

We have stayed at the Hotel d'Atelier twice, although both times were years ago. I'm happy to hear that it is still a nice place.

One time we had a car, parking was not too good and the other time didn't so we took cabs or the bus.

We were there on some holiday in April, possibly Easter Monday, I forge, and after waiting for a very long time for the bus into Avignon, we went back to the hotel to see if it was indeed running. The then owner, explained that it was a holiday and told her husband to drive us into town in his brand new BMW and told to call and he would come and pick us up. We walked back, and it was a long long walk. Nice people, nice hotel.

We have eaten at La Magnanerale twice, and Underwood is right it is in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon. It was is a nice restaurant and the hotel is very lovely but very expensive.

Personally, I'd stay at d'Atilier, go into Avignon to sightsee, stay and have dinner there, and then take a cab back to the hotel.

On the other day, I'd spend the the morning in Avignon, returning in the afternoon to Villeneuve, wander around and see the sights, and then have dinner in one of their little restaurants or perhaps La Magnanerale.

Enjoy your stay,

Nina
